RIPEN BANANA IN THE MICROWAVE

Ripen Banana in the Microwave image

This was so easy in the microwave. Whether you want to use the mashed bananas in sweet bread recipes, mashed up with graham crackers for baby,in your brownie recipes, or banana cake, dips, spreads, sauces or smoothies- this is a fast and safe way to get those bananas ripe.

Provided by Pat Duran

Categories     Sweet Breads

Number Of Ingredients 3

3 medium or large banana, sliced
1 medium microwave safe bowl
1 medium piece of waxed paper

Steps:

  • 1. Peel and slice banana or bananas in a microwave safe bowl. Cover with waxed paper. Microwave for one minute. Mash with a fork. Let cool. Ready to use in your favorite recipe when cool and have ripened(turned dark).
  • 2. Note: I sliced 3 bananas in a bowl and it only took 1 minute to get them ripe. But every microwave is different. Make sure to let them cool on the cupboard as they turn black and ripen sweetly as they cool. Hugs,Pat
  • 3. Note: Here is another banana fact: Place a piece of plastic wrap or foil tightly around the stem ends of a bunch of banana and they will stay fresh and yellow longer and not turn dark- if you want to keep them fresh. It works I've tried it. Have had bananas on the counter for 1 week already still fresh!

  • If you have NO bananas for your banana bread recipe and you’re running to the store, check for bananas that are already ripen in a basket off to the side of the banana stand. Some stores set aside older bananas just for those of us that need ripe bananas in a pinch!
  • If you need the ripe bananas immediately with no time to spare, you can quickly microwave your bananas. Pierce the banana with a fork and microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Keep your eyes on it!
  • If you have about an hour to spare, bake the bananas on a baking sheet at 250°F for 20-30 minutes (until they turn completely brown). I said an hour to spare because you need to allow time for them to cool before using them in your banana recipe.
  • If you have time to plan the night before you’re making your banana bread, place the bananas in a paper bag (add an apple or a ripe banana if you have them). This seals off the oxygen and quickens the ripening process.
