EGGNOG OF THE COMMONWEALTH CLUB

"This eggnog has been used in the club for over a hundred years, according to Alice B. Toklas. This eggnog will knock you off your feet and is not for times of stress. For hangovers: Fernet Branca and soda."

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 dozen eggs
2 quarts cream
1 quart whipping cream
2 quarts whiskey
4 ounces rum
4 ounces brandy
1 1/2 lbs sugar

Steps:

  • Separtate yolks and whites of eggs. In a large bowl, beat thoroughly the yolks of the eggs, then add and mix well the sugar, adding slowly.
  • Stir and heat.
  • Mixture should be stirred into the whiskey.
  • Add cream slowly and mix in thoroughly.
  • beat whites of eggs until stiff and mix in thoroughly, then lastly the whipped cream.
  • Individuals can sprinkle grated nutmeg to their taste.

1 cup white sugar, or more to taste
10 eggs, divided
1 quart milk
1 quart heavy whipping cream
¼ cup rum
¼ cup whisky

Steps:

  • Beat sugar and egg yolks together in a bowl using an electric mixer until very light in color. Mix milk and cream into yolk mixture.
  • Beat egg whites in a separate bowl using an electric mixer until stiff peaks form, adding more sugar, if desired. Fold egg whites into milk mixture until eggnog is smooth. Stir rum and whisky into eggnog. Refrigerate until chilled, at least 1 hour.

Rich Homemade Eggnog image

Treat your family with this chilled and creamy eggnog - a perfect beverage to serve at any occasion.

8 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups milk
2 cups whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 cup bourbon
Additional freshly grated nutmeg

Steps:

  • In medium bowl, beat egg yolks and sugar with wire whisk until thick and lemon colored. In 2-quart saucepan, stir milk and 1 cup of the whipping cream. Add yolk mixture, stirring with whisk. Cook over medium heat 10 minutes, stirring constantly, until mixture just coats a metal spoon.
  • Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Place saucepan in cold water until custard is cool, stirring occasionally. Cover; refrigerate at least 2 hours but no longer than 24 hours.
  • Just before serving, stir bourbon into chilled custard. In chilled small bowl, beat remaining 1 cup whipping cream with electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form. Gently stir whipped cream into custard. Sprinkle with additional nutmeg. Serve, or refrigerate until serving time. Eggnog can be stored covered in refrigerator up to 2 days.
