RICE KRISPIE TREAT PUMPKINS
These Rice Krispie Treat Pumpkins are so cute and they're really easy to make!

Steps:
- In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat.
- Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and combined with the butter.
- Remove from the heat. Add several drops of yellow food colouring, mix it together, then add red food colouring one drop at a time, mixing as you go. Add red/yellow drops until you reach your desired colour. (I used about 4 drops red and 12 drops yellow). Mix well.
- Add the Rice Krispies and stir to combine.
- Coat both sides of your hands with a generous amount of cooking oil or butter, and roll the Rice Krispie mixture into small balls. Set on parchment paper. Add oil/butter to your hands after each ball.
- While the balls are still warm, gently press a Mini Rolo into the top of each pumpkin for the stem and add a green M&M beside it as the leaf. (Tip: If the pumpkins cool before you're finished, use the end of a thick marker or apple corer to make a small indent in the top for the chocolate to sit in.)
- Allow to cool until firm.

- Line a 9 x 13-in pan with heavy duty aluminum foil and lightly grease with softened butter. Set aside 2 cups of the marshmallows.
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, preferably with a light bottom so you can monitor the color, melt the butter over medium heat (save the butter wrappers; you'll use them later for pressing the mixture into the pan). Swirl the pan occasionally to be sure the butter is cooking evenly.
- As the butter melts, it will begin to bubble and foam, and the color will progress from bright yellow to golden to, finally, a toasty-brown. Once you smell that nutty brown butter aroma, take the pan off the heat. (You'll see little bits of golden brown sediment forming; that's okay. However, if the sediment looks almost black, go ahead and pass the butter through a fine sieve to strain it out, then return the brown butter to the pan.)

- Use peanut butter in place of marshmallows. Beyond adding tons of great flavor to your crispy rice treats, peanut butter makes the perfect substitute for marshmallows because it binds everything together, while still providing a salty sweetness.
- Brown the butter, instead of simply melting it. Browning the butter adds a wonderful depth of rich flavor to your crispy rice treats recipe. Melt the butter on medium heat until it turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma.
- Try a chocolate and coconut combo. Using flaked coconut and chocolate rice cereal gives these classic treats an Almond Joy candy bar-like flavor. Plus, the coconut shreds give this recipe some extra texture.
- Add graham crackers to make s'mores-inspired crispy rice treats. You’ll feel like you’re sitting around a campfire when you dig into this s'mores-inspired version of crispy rice treats, which have broken pieces of graham crackers mixed in with the rice cereal and a drizzle of chocolate on top.
- Get creative with different cereal options. Like keeping your options open? Why not make a crispy rice treat with more than one kind of cereal? In addition to the rice cereal, add a brown sugar and butter-flavored breakfast cereal, like Cap'n Crunch or Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or a fruit-flavored breakfast cereal, like Froot Loops or Trix, for a smorgasbord of flavor!
- Shake things up with a salty-sweet combo. For a take on crispy rice treats that strikes a balance between salty and sweet, give this recipe a try. Instead of marshmallows, make a caramel to bind the cereal together.
- Flavor your crispy rice treats with cake mix. Have someone's birthday coming up? Surprise them with this wow-worthy Funfetti crispy rice treat! Add a packaged cake mix, like Funfetti, into your crispy rice treat mixture for some extra sweetness and cake batter flavor.
- Incorporate international flavors. For an international twist, add raisins and cardamom to your crispy rice treats mixture, and finish it off with a sprinkle of sea salt on top.
- Mix butterscotch chips into the marshmallows for extra sweetness. Step aside, peanut butter. Chocolate has a new best friend — butterscotch! Substitute one cup of butterscotch chips in place of the marshmallows, and melt chocolate to place on top of this decadent crispy rice treat dessert.
- Combine rice crispy treats and brownies into one ultimate dessert idea. Crispy rice treats like you've never had them before! These tantalizing treats have a base of brownie, a middle layer of marshmallow fluff, and a layer of chocolatey, peanut buttery rice crispy cereal on top.

- Nutella. Nutella is a spread made from hazelnuts and cocoa. It tastes chocolaty with a hint of nut. The texture and consistency is somewhat similar to peanut butter.
- Sprinkles. Add fun to your treats by topping them with sprinkles. It works best if you add the sprinkles when the treats are still warm. You can also mix in sprinkles when you add the cereal to the marshmallows.
- Cocoa Krispies. Craving something chocolaty? Follow the basic Rice Krispies treats recipe, but substitute Cocoa Krispies.
- Choco Madness. For a chocolate overload, use Cocoa Krispies and add chocolate chips. Then pour chocolate syrup over the top and add chocolate sprinkles!
- Fruity Pebbles. If you are in the mood for something fruity, follow the same basic recipe for normal treats, but with Fruity Pebbles instead of the Krispies.
- Fun Shapes and Colors. Add appeal to your treats by making them in fun shapes and colors. Create shaped treats by using cookie cutters shaped in whatever theme you want.
- Dessert Shish Kebab. Make the treat easy to hold by adding a Popsicle stick or a kebab stick. You can add slices of fruit as well as pieces of the treats to turn it into a dessert shish kebab.
- Candy Pieces. Mix in pieces of candy to make the treats sweeter. You can buy crushed candy for baking or you can crush a candy bar yourself. Most candy will work well.
- Peanut Butter Treats. Make your treats peanut buttery for a more protein-packed treat. After the marshmallows are melted, add ½ a cup of peanut butter.
- Cherry Treats (Fruit Treats) Add fruit to the treats for a fresh taste. To make the cherry treats, you will need ½ a cup of drained, chopped sweet (maraschino) cherries.

- Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper. Lightly grease the parchment. I always use a very light mist of nonstick spray. Set aside.
- Melt the butter over medium heat in a very large pot. Once melted, add the marshmallows. Stir the mixture until the marshmallows are completely melted.
- Remove from heat, then immediately stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Finally, fold in the cereal. Make sure each piece of cereal is coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Transfer mixture to prepared pan. Using a rubber spatula (greasing it lightly helps), gently spread mixture to fit the pan. Lightly grease the back of a flat spatula and very gently press the mixture down into the pan. Do not pack it down with force, just lightly press down so it’s secure in the pan.
