VEGAN MONTE CRISTO



Vegan Monte Cristo image

This easy vegan ham and cheese recipe is dipped in a spicy egg wash then grilled in butter. It's like a French toast, ham & cheese sandwich!

Number Of Ingredients 8

½ cup of vegan egg (we suggest using JUST egg for this. See Note)
¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
2 slices of bread (we prefer sourdough for this sandwich)
2 tablespoon stone ground mustard
2 to 3 pieces of thinly sliced vegan ham
1 slice vegan cheese (See Note)
1 tablespoon vegan butter or olive oil

Steps:

  • In a bowl that's large enough for the bread, whisk the ½ cup of vegan egg, ¼ tsp of smoked paprika, and salt and pepper to taste.
  • Spread the mustard evenly over one side of a piece of bread and then assemble the sandwich by layering the vegan ham and cheese on top of the mustard. Place the top piece of bread on top and dip both sides in the egg mixture.
  • In a skillet, heat the pan on medium-high heat and add the butter or oil when the pan is hot. When the butter is completely melted, add the sandwich to the pan and cook for approximately 2 to 3 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy. Flip the sandwich and cook the other side until it's golden brown and crispy. To help the cheese melt, cover the pan with a lid.
  • Enjoy!

2 eggs
1 tablespoon milk
2-1/2 cups corn chips, crushed
8 slices rye bread
1/2 cup Thousand Island salad dressing
12 slices deli corned beef
8 slices Swiss cheese
1 cup sauerkraut, rinsed and well drained

Steps:

  • In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs and milk. Place chips in another shallow bowl. Dip one side of four slices of bread in the egg mixture, then in the chips. Place chip side down on a greased baking sheet. Spread salad dressing on each slice. Layer each with 1 slice corned beef, 1 slice Swiss cheese and 1/4 cup sauerkraut., Dip the one side of the remaining bread slices in egg mixture and chips; place chip side up on sandwiches. , On a large skillet or griddle, toast sandwiches over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes on each side or until bread is lightly browned and cheese is melted.

2 slices cooked turkey meat

Steps:

  • Spread bread with mayonnaise and mustard. Alternate ham, Swiss and turkey slices on bread.
  • Beat egg and milk in a small bowl. Coat the sandwich with the egg and milk mixture. Heat a greased skillet over medium heat, brown the sandwich on both sides. Serve hot.

8 slices country bread
Swiss cheese slices
Bourbon-Glazed Ham
4 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 tablespoons butter
Confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Spread mustard on bread. Layer 4 bread slices with Swiss cheese, ham, and cheese again. Place remaining bread slices on top.
  • In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, turning to coat well.
  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. When butter is foamy, add the sandwiches, and cook, turning once, until golden brown on both sides, 6 to 8 minutes total. Serve immediately, dusted with confectioners' sugar.
