One of the best Irish whiskey drinks, Irish coffee goes beyond whiskey-spiked coffee. Learn how to make this iconic cocktail with the original recipe.

1 to 2 teaspoons ​brown sugar (to taste)
4 ounces coffee (strong, rich, hot)
1 1/2 ounces ​Irish whiskey
1 ounce heavy cream (lightly whipped)

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Place the brown sugar into a warm Irish coffee glass , mug, or other heatproof glass.
  • Add the coffee and Irish whiskey.
  • Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Float the lightly whipped heavy cream on top by slowly pouring it over the back of a spoon.
  • Do not stir. Instead, drink the Irish coffee through the cream. Enjoy.

This easy and simple recipe makes three bottles of a favorite coffee-flavored liqueur! It tastes wonderful, too. The longer it's stored, the smoother the taste.

5 cups water
3 cups white sugar
¼ cup instant coffee granules
1 (750 milliliter) bottle rum (dark or light)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Stir the water, sugar, and instant coffee together in a saucepan over high heat until the sugar dissolves and the mixture boils. Remove from the heat, and cool 30 to 45 minutes. Stir in the rum and vanilla. Using a funnel, pour into 3 clean wine bottles. Seal, and store in a dark, cool place at least 2 weeks before drinking.

A delicious and warm Authentic Irish Coffee made with whiskey, coffee, and heavy cream.

Glass mug with handle
hot water
6- ounces brewed black coffee
2 teaspoons sugar (, or to taste)
2 tablespoons Irish Whiskey
2 tablespoons heavy cream

Steps:

  • Fill the mug with hot water and let stand 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Empty water from mug and add brewed coffee and stir in sugar.
  • Stir in whiskey.
  • Place heavy cream in a mixing bowl and whisk until frothy, but pourable. You can also use an electric mixer.
  • Hold a spoon upside down over the mug and slowly pour the cream over the spoon, allowing the cream to float on top of the coffee.
  • Serve.

1/4 cup hot strong black coffee
1 -2 teaspoon sugar
1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey
1 -2 tablespoon double cream

Steps:

  • Fill a stemmed whiskey glass with hot water then throw out, refilling it with boiling water. Throw this out, fill the glass somewhat more than half full with coffee and add sugar to taste.
  • Stir to dissolve, then add the whiskey. Pour the cream over the back of a spoon to float on top. Drink the hot liquid through the cool cream.
  • If double cream is not available use lightly-whipped single(whipping)cream.

1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 jigger Irish whiskey (1 1/2 ounces or 3 tablespoons)
Heavy cream, slightly whipped

Steps:

  • Fill footed mug or a mug with hot water to preheat it, then empty. Pour piping hot coffee into warmed glass until it is about 3/4 full. Add the brown sugar and stir until completely dissolved. Blend in Irish whiskey. Top with a collar of the whipped heavy cream by pouring gently over back of spoon. Serve hot.
