This naturally sweet and creamy, frosty cold smoothie packs a lot of flavor and a nutritious punch.

1 banana
16 whole almonds
¼ cup rolled oats
1 tablespoon flaxseed meal
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup raspberry yogurt
¼ cup Concord grape juice
1 cup 1% buttermilk

Steps:

  • Peel the banana and cut into 1/2-inch chunks. Chill in freezer until solid, about 2 hours.
  • Place the almonds, oats, and flaxseed meal into a blender; pulse until finely ground. Add the frozen banana, frozen blueberries, yogurt, grape juice, and buttermilk; puree until smooth.

1/4 cup orange juice
1 orange, peeled
1 fresh or frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
1/2 cup frozen peaches

Steps:

  • Add ingredients listed in the order above to a blender then blend until smooth.

This is something that I had to come up with in a snap. Instead of store bought buttermilk, I used a substitution of homemade buttermilk which tastes the same. Gives it a nice little tart taste.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 Tbsp vinegar
1 c low fat milk (just shy 1 tbsp)
1 medium banana frozen in chunks
10 almonds
1/4 c cooked oatmeal
2 Tbsp flax
1/4 c blueberries frozen
1/4 c blackberries frozen
2/3 c raspberry flavored yogurt (one container)
2 Tbsp grape juice or apple juice
6 ice cubes

Steps:

  • 1. In a one cup measuring cup, place 1 tbsp vinegar and fill the rest of the cup with milk. Set aside and let sit for 5 minutes. (this is your buttermilk).
  • 2. Place banana, almonds, oatmeal, flax and berries in blender and pulse a few times. Add yogurt, juice and "buttermilk" and blend to combine. Add ice cubes 2 at a time and pulse to break up, then blend to desired consistency.
  • 3. Note: If you prefer, you can use 1 cup buttermilk if you have it on hand. Then omit milk and vinegar.
