HEARTY HAM AND PEAR PANINI



Hearty Ham and Pear Panini image

Pear provides a simple addition to this hearty grilled ham sandwich - a wonderful dinner ready in just 20 minutes. Perfect if you love Italian cuisine.

2 tablespoons yellow mustard
1/2 loaf focaccia bread (13 to 15 inches long), cut in half horizontally
8 slices (2 oz each) ham
1 medium pear, peeled, thinly sliced
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (4 oz)
1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Heat closed contact grill 5 minutes.
  • Spread mustard on bottom half of bread; layer with ham, pear and cheese. Cover with top half of bread. Lightly brush top of bread with oil. Cut sandwich into fourths.
  • When grill is heated, place sandwiches on grill. Close grill; grill 4 to 6 minutes or until cheese is melted and bread is golden brown.

Grilled Brie Ham & Pear Sandwich image

This delicious sandwich is a bit out of the ordinary and so easy to make. Within 15 minutes, you can enjoy it!

1 large bosc pear, washed
6 slice sourdough, ciabatta or french bread
3 oz brie cheese, thinly sliced
3 tsp pomegranate molasses (1 tsp. per sandwich)
freshly ground black pepper, to taste (i always use mixed peppercorns)
6 slice black forest ham
5 to 6 large leaves butter lettuce, washed
3 tsp dijon mustard, or as needed
1/4 c butter, room temperature, or as needed

Steps:

  • 1. Assemble sandwich by placing slices of brie followed by slices of pear on bread. Drizzle 1 tsp. of pomegranate molasses on top of the pear slices per sandwich; season with freshly ground black pepper. Place a couple of slices of ham on before adding a couple leaves of lettuce.
  • 2. Generously spread mustard on the other bread slices and place face down on the lettuce. Spread butter on one side only.
  • 3. In a panini press or skillet over medium heat, place sandwiches butter side down and put press on top, pressing down gently. If not using a panini press, place a heavy lid on top.
  • 4. Grill for 2 minutes or until nicely brown. Remove press or lid and butter top slices before carefully flipping them over. Replace press or lid, gently press down again and grill for 2 minutes or until nicely browned. Serve immediately. Makes 3 sandwiches

Ham and Cheese with Pear??? Seriously, I'm not crazy!! I thought the same thing you're thinking at first, but became a believer after having tried it at a brunch with girlfriends!

1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
1/2 teaspoon mayonnaise
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon honey
1 pinch cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg
1 fresh pear, cored, skinned, and thinly sliced
4 ounces thinly shaved ham, sliced
4 slices baby swiss cheese
4 pieces rye bread or 4 pieces whole grain wheat bread
1 tablespoon soft butter

Steps:

  • Combine the first six ingredients and spread onto one side of each of the four slices of bread.
  • To assemble the two sandwiches: On top of 2 slices of bread, with the mustard-mayo combination side up, layer the ingredients as follows: cheese, ham, pear, cheese - and then top with the remaining slices of bread, with the mustard-mayonnaise side down.
  • Next, thinly butter the outsides of both sandwiches.
  • Grill for 2-3 minutes over medium heat, cooking until golden brown. Turn and cook on the other side for another 2-3 minutes.
