Time 45m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 1/2 to 3 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour or Better for Bread™ bread flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 package regular or quick active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
1 cup very warm water (120°F to 130°F)

Steps:

  • In large bowl, mix 1 cup of the flour, the sugar, salt and yeast. Add 3 tablespoons oil and the warm water. Beat with electric mixer on medium speed 3 minutes, scraping bowl frequently. Stir in enough of the remaining flour until dough is soft and leaves side of bowl. Place dough on lightly floured surface. Knead 5 to 8 minutes or until dough is smooth and springy. Cover loosely with plastic wrap; let rest 30 minutes.
  • For Thin Crusts: Heat oven to 425°F. Grease two flat cookie sheets or 12-inch pizza pans with oil. Divide dough in half. Pat each half into 12-inch circle on one of the cookie sheets. Partially bake 7 to 8 minutes or until crusts just begin to brown. Add desired toppings; bake 8 to 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. For Thick Crusts: Grease two 8-inch square pans, or two 9-inch round pans with oil. Sprinkle with cornmeal. Divide dough in half. Pat each half in bottom of one of the pans. Cover loosely with clean kitchen towel; let dough rise in warm place 30 to 45 minutes or until almost doubled in size. Move oven racks to lowest positions. Heat oven to 375°F. Partially bake 20 to 22 minutes or until crust just begins to brown. Add desired toppings; bake about 20 minutes or until cheese is melted.

QUICK AND EASY PIZZA CRUST

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust image

This is a great recipe when you don't want to wait for the dough to rise. You just mix it and allow it to rest for 5 minutes and then it's ready to go!! It yields a soft, chewy crust. For a real treat, I recommend you use bread flour and bake it on a pizza stone, but all-purpose flour works well too. Enjoy!

Provided by Amanda Rettke

Categories     Main Course

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 cup lukewarm water
1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast
1/2 teaspoon honey
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 475° F.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the water, yeast, and honey. Let that sit for 10 minutes.
  • Add the flour and salt into the yeast mixture and stir to combine. Start with a spoon and move to your hands once the dough starts to form. You may need to add more water if the dough is too dry, or more flour if the dough is too sticky. Stick to a teaspoon at a time, as needed.
  • Lay out a piece of parchment, add a light layer of flour, and top with the dough. Knead the dough a few times with your hands. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Roll or stretch the dough out as thin as possible, but make sure it is at least 10 inches wide.
  • Transfer the parchment and the stretched dough onto a pizza stone or other pizza baking pan.
  • Bake dough for 5 minutes and then remove from oven.
  • Add your toppings and bake for 10-15 minutes, but keep an eye on it since baking times can differ.
  • It will be done when the crust is crispy and cheese is golden.
  • Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing.

PREBAKED PIZZA CRUST

Prebaked Pizza Crust image

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 2h50m

Yield two 13-by-18-inch crusts

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 cups bread flour, plus more for dusting
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon rapid-rise instant yeast
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for the bowl

Steps:

  • Combine the flour, salt and yeast in a large bowl. Stir in 2 cups warm water (about 105 degrees F) and 2 tablespoons olive oil with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until the dough rises slightly, about 1 hour.
  • Using lightly floured hands, transfer the dough to a generously floured surface and knead several times until it just starts becoming smooth and elastic, about 1 minute (do not over-knead). Transfer to a lightly oiled large bowl. Tightly cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until almost doubled in size, about 1 hour. Meanwhile, place a pizza stone or inverted rimmed baking sheet on the lower oven rack and preheat to 500 degrees F.
  • Brush two rimmed 13-by-18-inch baking sheets (not nonstick) with 3 tablespoons olive oil each. Place one piece of dough on each baking sheet. Prepare the pizzas one at a time: Cover the dough with plastic wrap, then press firmly with your hands to fill the baking
  • Remove the plastic wrap and transfer the baking sheet to the hot pizza stone. Bake until the crust starts browning, about 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and carefully loosen the crust from the pan using a spatula. Top and bake or let cool, lightly wrap in plastic and set aside up to 8 hours.
