HAWAIIAN PORK CHOPS

Looking for a great last-minute meal when friends drop in? Hampton, Virginia's Michelle Cavalier recommends one of her husband's sweet-and-sour favorites. "This is so easy, tastes just like Hawaiian pizza, and I usually have all ingredients on hand."

Number Of Ingredients 14

4 boneless pork loin chops (3/4 inch thick and 4 ounces each)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
3 teaspoons canola oil, divided
1/3 cup chopped green pepper
1/3 cup thinly sliced onion
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) reduced-sodium beef broth
1 can (8 ounces) unsweetened pineapple chunks, undrained
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons cold water
Hot cooked rice, optional

Steps:

  • Sprinkle pork chops with salt and pepper. Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook pork chops until lightly browned, 3-4 minutes on each side. Remove and keep warm. , In the same skillet, saute green pepper and onion in remaining 1 teaspoon oil until almost tender, about 2 minutes. Stir in broth, pineapple, ketchup, brown sugar and vinegar. Bring to a boil. Return pork to the pan. Reduce heat; cover and simmer until a thermometer inserted in pork reads 145°, 5-7 minutes. Remove and keep warm., Combine cornstarch and water until smooth; stir into skillet. Bring to a boil; cook and stir until thickened, 1-2 minutes. Serve with pork and, if desired, rice.

This Hawaiian slow cooker kalua pork recipe has just four ingredients and takes less than 10 minutes of prep. It turns out amazingly delicious; just like the Kalua pork slow-roasted underground all day in Hawaii. You gotta try it to believe it!

7 bacon strips, divided
1 boneless pork shoulder butt roast (about 3 pounds), well trimmed of all excess fat
1 tablespoon coarse sea salt
1 medium head cabbage (about 2 pounds), coarsely chopped

Steps:

  • Ideal slow cooker size: 6 Quart.
  • Line the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker with four bacon strips. Sprinkle all side of the well-trimmed pork roast with salt and place it in the slow cooker on top of the bacon. Arrange remaining bacon over top of the roast.
  • Cover and cook on cook on LOW for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender when pierced with a fork.
  • Add the cabbage, spreading it around and on top of the roast. Cook, covered, 1 to 1-1/4 hours longer, or until cabbage is tender.
  • Remove pork to a serving bowl and shred it with two forks.
  • Using a slotted spoon, add cabbage to the pork and toss to combine.
  • If desired, skim fat from some of the cooking juices remaining in the slow cooker and stir into pork mixture, or serve on the side.

4 (6 ounce) center-cut pork loin chops, lean
2 tablespoons pineapple juice
1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 large egg white, lightly beaten
1/3 cup dry breadcrumbs
1/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1 dash garlic powder
cooking spray

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Trim fat from chops.
  • Combine juice and next 4 ingredients in a bowl; stir well.
  • Combine breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, paprika, and dash of garlic powder in a shallow dish; stir well.
  • Dip chops in juice mixture, and dredge in breadcrumbs mixture.
  • Place chops on a broiler pan coated with cooking spray.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until tender, turning after 25 minutes.

I found this recipe at Obesity Help. The recipe was posted by marylyn. Weight Watcher points 7. When I made these pork chops I used 6 boneless pork chops. I used a 20oz can of pineapple slices which I had 3 slices leftover and I cut the remaining 3 slices up. I also doubled the sauce and used Splenda brown sugar.

8 ounces pineapple slices, drained, reserve juice
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Place pork chops on baking dish that is lightly sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Mix 2 tablespoons of the reserved pineapple juice with brown sugar and nutmeg. Spoon half of the mixture over the pork chops. Top with pineapple slices and spoon remaining mixture over the pineapple.
  • Cover and bake 30 minutes at 350°F Uncover and bake 20 minutes longer, sauce over chops occasionally.

4 boneless pork chops
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon Ranch seasoning mix (I use this Ranch seasoning mix)
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
salt and pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels. Drizzle the olive oil over both sides of the pork, spread to coat evenly. Then sprinkle the dry Ranch mix, salt, and pepper over both sides.
  • Preheat gas grill on medium high heat for about 15 minutes. Clean the grates, then use long grill tongs, paper towel, and cooking oil to oil the grates.
  • Grill the pork chops for about 4-6 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness of the cut. Pork chops are done when meat thermometer reaches 140 degrees F when inserted into the center. Remove from grill and let rest for 5 minutes, tented loosely with foil. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
