This is my all time favorite! Forget about side dish... This is a meal on its own! Everytime I visit a Popeye's I make sure to always get this. Goes great with fried chicken! Feel free to add or take away any ingredients to make it to your liking!

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 cup finely diced bell pepper
1/3 cup diced green onion
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried celery flakes
1 teaspoon creole seasoning
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
4 cups long grain rice, cooked and drained
1/4-1/3 cup water
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • In fry pan, stir in ground beef and bell pepper.
  • Cook over medium high heat until beef loses its pink color and bell pepper is soft.
  • Remove excess grease.
  • Turn temperature down to medium or medium low.
  • Add remaining ingredients; stir and cook together until ground beef is completely cooked and liquid is gone.

1 pound Lean ground beef
1/2 cup chicken gizzards
1/2 cup finely diced green bell pepper
1/3 cup sliced green onions
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon celery flakes
1 teaspoon Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
4 cups long grain rice cooked and drained
1/4 - 1/3 cup water
1/4 teaspoon ground black epper

Steps:

  • Cook 4 cups of long grain rice according to package directions.
  • Finely chop or pulse thechicken gizzards in a food processor. In a frying pan, stir in the ground beef,ground chicken gizzards, and bell pepper and cook on medium-high heat until thebeef loses its pink color and the bell pepper is soft. Remove excessgrease.
  • Turn the temperature downto medium or medium-low and add the remaining ingredients. Cook, stirring,until the ground beef is completely cooked and liquid is gone (about 25-35 mins.) More Creole seasoning and red pepper may be added for that Cajun at heart taste.I like to use Tony Chachere's.

Seeing Bonnies Popeye's chicken got me thinking of their dirty rice. So I looked up copycat dirty rice for popeye's and there were two. each saying they were the real. This one has the stuff I remember in it and the other is easy so I will put both here and you can try both. I believe the first is the real one.

  • 1. 2 cups long grain rice
4 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound ground beef ((85/15))
1/2 cup chicken gizzards (minced)
1/2 green bell pepper (minced)
1/2 yellow onion (minced)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon creole seasoning
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
1/2 cup water

Steps:

  • Rinse your rice well then add to a dutch oven with your beef broth.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce to medium low heat.
  • Cover and cook for 20 minutes.
  • While the rice is cooking add the vegetable oil, ground beef, chicken gizzards, bell pepper, onion to a large cast iron skillet on medium high heat, breaking it apart as you cook them, for about 6-8 minutes.
  • Add in the garlic powder, celery seed, creole seasoning, cayenne and black pepper along with the water and stir well.
  • Add the rice to the mixture, stir well to combine and serve.

1/2 cup chicken gizzards, finely chopped or ground
1/2 green bell pepper, diced
1/3 cup green onions, sliced
1 teaspoon Creole seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon celery flakes (or celery seed)
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/4 cup beef broth
4 cups cooked long-grain rice
salt, to taste

Steps:

  • Bring a large frying pan to medium-high heat, and add the ground beef, chopped chicken gizzards, and diced green bell peppers.
  • Break apart the ground beef, and cook until it is no longer pink. Drain excess grease, if needed.
  • Add all of the remaining ingredients: green onions, seasoning, and beef broth, then stir and reduce the heat to medium-low.
  • Add in the rice, stir, and cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until any moisture has cooked off.
  • Remove from heat, season to taste with more creole seasoning, salt, or red pepper flakes, if desired. Serve immediately.

Dirty Rice is a delicious, savory, classic Cajun dish that gets its flavor from ground meat, cajun seasonings, and aromatic vegetables.

1 tablespoon oil
½ pound ground beef (lean)
½ pound ground sausage (or all ground beef)
½ cup chicken liver or chicken gizzards (minced, optional)
1 medium yellow onion (diced)
1 green bell pepper (diced)
½ cup celery (diced)
3 cloves garlic (minced)
2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
2 cups white rice or basmati rice (uncooked, washed)
4 cups low sodium chicken broth
2 bay leaves
salt and pepper (to taste)
¼ cup fresh parsley leaves (chopped, to serve)

Steps:

  • In a heavy bottomed saucepan or dutch oven, heat oil then combine the ground beef, ground sausage and chicken liver. And cook over medium high heat until no longer pink.
  • Add onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the onion has softened.
  • Add the seasoning, cook for 30 more seconds.
  • Add rice, chicken broth, bay leaves, and season with salt and pepper. Give it a stir, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to lowest setting possible, cover with a lid and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the liquid has been absorbed. Remove from heat, and allow to rest for about 5 minutes.
  • Fluff with a fork, garnish with chopped parsley and serve.
