"POISON" CANDY APPLES

Try an eerie twist on the traditional candy apple for a delicious Halloween treat.

Ingredients

12 baby Granny Smith apples
12 wooden candy apple sticks or dowels
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. light corn syrup
1 tsp. black gel paste food coloring

Steps:

Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Place on a baking sheet and poke firmly with dowels. Line a second baking sheet with buttered parchment paper, and set aside.
Place a candy thermometer in a medium saucepan and add sugar, 3/4 cups water, and corn syrup. Place over medium heat; whisk until sugar is dissolved. Let the temperature rise without stirring until it reaches the hard-crack mark at 310 degrees F. Remove pan from heat. Carefully remove thermometer, and add food coloring.
Swirl pan to mix in the color completely. Swipe and twirl the apple through the candy, shake off excess, and place on buttered baking sheet. Repeat with remaining apples.

Steps:

In a cocktail shaker full of ice, combine apple schnapps, vodka and apple juice. Mix well. Pour into glasses and garnish with a slice of Granny Smith apple.

Black lava salt, or coarse black sugar, for rim ((optional))
1/2 cup apple cider
2 tablespoons pomegranate juice
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 ounces vodka or apple vodka
1/8 teaspoon activated charcoal for coloring (could also use black food dye) ((optional))
Dry ice ((optional))

Steps:

1. If desired, rim your martini glass with black lava salt or coarse black sugar.2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the cider, pomegranate juice, lemon, vodka, and activated charcoal, if using. Shake to combine.3. Strain into prepared martini glass. Add a very, very small amount of dry ice, if desired and be sure to wait until the ice fully dissolves to drink or serve as dry ice can be dangerous if it has yet to melt.

1 fluid ounce pomegranate juice (such as POM® Wonderful)
1 slice apple
dry ice

Steps:

Fill a cocktail shaker with crushed ice; add vodka, cranberry-apple juice, and pomegranate juice. Cover and shake until the outside of the shaker has frosted. Strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with apple slice and a small chip of dry ice for effect.
