TACO MEAT

Taco Meat image

This recipe makes just the taco meat. You have to buy everything else, of course. Make a big batch and use for a multiple of different meals: add to bean burritos for a more hearty and tasty burrito, or add a can of beans (kidney, red, or pinto) and use for Frito® Pie, Navajo tacos, or taco salad.

PITA FILLING / TACO MEAT

Pita Filling / Taco Meat image

This is awsome with homemade pitas, which you can also find on Zaar. It really makes alot, but it saves well in the fridge and is almost better the next day for leftovers. I like this recipe because it's a good way to get my family to eat vegies. My family doesn't like summer squash, but this is also good with squash sauted in with the other vegies. Happy eating!

  • Make the spicy minced beef: Heat a large pan or saucepan over high heat and when it’s hot enough add the minced meat and the olive oil. Cook the beef stirring often with a wooden spatula, breaking up any lumps, until it is browned and all the juices have evaporated (about 10 minutes). Add the spices and stir for 1 more minute, then add the wine and cook for another minute until it’s evaporated. Transfer the mixture to a plate.
  • Make the filling: Reduce heat to medium/high and transfer in the same pan the olive oil, the onion, the corn, the red pepper, and the green pepper. Cook until the onion is soft (about 5 minutes) and then add the minced beef, the beans, the parsley, the green onions, and the tomato. Cook for 2 more minutes and turn off the heat. Add half of the grated cheese, the yogurt and the avocado and mix.
  • Make the pitacos: Divide the filling to the pitas, fold them in the middle and transfer them to a pan so that the one is next to the other, in order to retain their shape. Top with the remaining cheese and bake for 10 minutes, until the cheese at the top melts.

  • Falafel Pita Sandwich. Pita bread's best-known stuffing is the classic falafel (fried chickpea balls). Typically paired with an Israeli salad of diced tomatoes, diced cucumbers, and sliced onions, the whole sandwich is drizzled with tahini sauce.
  • Sabich Sandwich. Almost as popular as a falafel stuffed pita, the sabich is a Middle Eastern sandwich with fried eggplant, hard-boiled egg, hummus, tahini, Israeli salad (diced tomatoes, diced cucumbers, and sliced onions), and a sweet and spicy mango sauce called amba.
  • Middle Eastern Chicken Shawarma. Shawarma sandwiches are the ultimate Middle Eastern on-the-go meal and they can be made with chicken, beef, lamb, or even vegetarian.
  • Grilled Chicken Pita Sandwich. Grilled chicken makes a great sandwich no matter how it's served. But stuff it into a pita along with some lettuce, spinach leaves, or a few grilled vegetables and top it with your favorite Middle Eastern sauce for the perfect taste.
  • Toasted Pita Salad Bowl. Move over burrito bowls because the pita bowl is here. Crisp vegetables such as fresh baby spinach leaves, tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onion are combined with roasted chickpeas and a tahini dressing, then served in a baked pita bowl.
  • Thanksgiving Leftovers Pita With Cranberry Pomegranate Sauce. Is the best part of Thanksgiving food the meal itself or the leftovers? Well, both of course but those leftovers are definitely important.
