PHILLY CHEESE STEAK PIZZA

Philly Cheese Steak Pizza image

My take on a homemade Philly cheese steak pizza! I'm loading up my homemade pizza crust with a quick garlic white sauce, lots of sautéed peppers, onions, and mushrooms. So why order out on Friday Night when you can make it at home?

Provided by Marzia

Categories     Beef

Time 1h10m

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon flour
½ cup cold milk
1-3 cloves garlic, pressed
1/8 teaspoon salt
a pinch of black pepper AND nutmeg
¼ cup parmesan cheese
½ recipe homemade
6 ounces of cooked ribeye, skirt,or flank steak, or roast beef (see notes for cooking instructions)
½ green bell pepper, sliced
3-5 mushrooms sliced
½ sweet onion, thinly sliced
3 teaspoons oil (optional)
1 ¼ cup shredded cheese (such as mozzarella or provolone)

Steps:

  • Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 475ºF. Roll the dough out into a 12 inch circle. Create a lip or rim by thickening the dough around the crust portion. This keeps the sauce in instead of running over the sides. Let dough rest for 15-20 minutes while you prepare the sauce.
  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and let cook for 1 minute or until it smells like baked pie dough. Slowly stream in the cold milk while you whisk. Add the pressed garlic and allow the sauce to come to a gentle simmer. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Remove the sauce from the stove; whisk in the parmesan cheese. Allow the sauce to cool for 5-10 minutes, you can prep your veggies in that time.
  • The veggies can be used raw on the pizza if you prefer. I like to heat a skillet with a teaspoon of oil and cook each onions, peppers, and mushrooms for just a couple minutes separately. You'll use a total of 3 teaspoons of oil to do this. I sometimes let the onions go low and slow for a little longer to get them to sweeten up a bit more, however this is totally optional.
  • Top the dough with sauce, cooked steak, veggies, and shredded cheese. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is lightly browned and the cheese is bubbling and golden. For the last minute of baking, you can turn it to the broiler setting jus to get everything extra bubbly if you'd like. Slice pizza and serve!

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK PIZZA

Philly Cheese Steak Pizza image

One night, trying to figure out something different for dinner, I came up with this. I'd had national chain pizzas like this but mine is a little different and made with what I had on hand. :)

Provided by Nancy Gregory

Categories     Steaks and Chops

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 12

3 c bisquick
2/3 c hot (not boiling) water

salt to taste
1 1/2 Tbsp flour
1/4 c parmesan cheese, shredded

parmesan cheese, mozarella cheese

Steps:

Number Of Ingredients 16

SAUCE:
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon flour
½ cup cold milk
1-3 cloves garlic, pressed
1/8 teaspoon salt
a pinch of black pepper AND nutmeg
¼ cup parmesan cheese
PIZZA:
½ recipe homemade pizza dough (store bought works too)
6 ounces of cooked ribeye, skirt,or flank steak, or roast beef (see notes for cooking instructions)
½ green bell pepper, sliced
3-5 mushrooms sliced
½ sweet onion, thinly sliced
3 teaspoons oil (optional)
1 ¼ cup shredded cheese (such as mozzarella or provolone)

Steps:

  • Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 475ºF. Roll the dough out into a 12 inch circle. Create a lip or rim by thickening the dough around the crust portion. The veggies can be used raw on the pizza if you prefer. For the last minute of baking, you can turn it to the broiler setting just to get everything extra bubbly if you'd like. Slice pizza and serve! NOTES: If you don't have leftover cooked steak, here's how to make it: Freeze the steak for 20-30 minutes so it's easier to slice. Slice into very thin slices. Heat a skillet with 2 teaspoons of oil and season the steak with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook the meat for a total of 1-2 minutes flipping it halfway in between so that it cooks evenly. Remove to a plate and let cool.

PHILLY CHEESESTEAK PIZZA RECIPE — OONI USA

From ooni.com

  • Overlooking the things that will get you thrown out of Philadelphia altogether (adding ketchup and using Swiss cheese), rules around what makes a good cheesesteak would take hours to debate. To chop, post-cook or not? "Wit' or wit'out?" (onions). Cheese Whiz or provolone? If provolone, sharp or mild? Is white American allowed? And what about green peppers?
  • About all you’ll get one hundred percent of people to agree on is a cheesesteak involves bread, meat, cheese, and sometimes onions. Most will add that this isn’t something that improves by being gussied up. Thankfully, when you reinterpret a classic dish in another format, you’re automatically somewhat freed from many of these rules.
  • There are a ton of approaches you could take. Some include using an Alfredo sauce (popular online), blended sautéed onions, or even Cheese Whiz as a base, or start a war by doing a Whiz base and a Provolone top. This recipe takes inspiration from classic cheesesteak ingredients and applies them to a red sauce-based pizza. Nobody will confuse it for a pizza incarnate version of cheesesteaks from famed Philadelphia shops like Pat's King of Steaks (the self-proclaimed "inventor of cheesesteak"), Geno’s (Pat’s rival across the intersection), Jim's, Dalessandro’s, or Tony Lukes, but it’s a tasty pizza nonetheless.
  • One decision you should consider is how long you want to cook the steak before topping the pizza or if you want to cook it at all. This will really depend on how thinly you slice it. If it’s on the thicker side (as pictured) you’ll want to follow this recipe and par-cook it on the Grizzler first. But if it’s ribeye you’ve shaved just a few millimeters thick, it should cook on the pie.
