PATRIOTIC PASTA
Serve this patriotic pasta salad loaded with tomatoes, blue cheese, and pasta for a festive addition to the 4th of July picnic table.

Steps:
- Whisk mayonnaise, sour cream, blue cheese, milk, honey mustard, vinegar, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper together in a bowl.
- Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a boil. Stir in penne and return to a boil. Cook pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until cooked through but still firm to the bite, about 11 minutes; drain and transfer to a bowl.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat; cook and stir garlic and basil until fragrant, 3 to 4 minutes. Pour garlic mixture over penne. Mix cauliflower, tomatoes, red bell pepper, mozzarella cheese, green onion, and Parmesan cheese into penne mixture; toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate to blend flavors, about 1 hour.

- Prepare the chicken 3 ways: Option 1) Cut the chicken from the bone and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Salt and pepper the chicken lightly and saute the chicken in a skillet on the stove over medium heat until it is cooked throughout. Set the chicken aside. Option 2) Baked chicken- Pour about 1 teaspoon oil over the chicken. Salt and pepper lightly. Place the chicken in an oven-safe dish and bake covered with foil for 30 minutes at 350° F until the juices run clear when pierced with a fork. Note- the chicken will bake faster if the chicken is cut from the bone before baking. After baking, cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and set aside until needed. Option 3) Grill the chicken on the BBQ with salt and pepper with 1 tablespoon of Italian dressing over the top. When done, remove the chicken from the bone and cut it into bite-sized pieces.Once cooked, place the chicken in the refrigerator until needed.
- Place the pre-cooked, cold colored pasta in a large bowl. (Note- the colored pasta can be made the day before. Keep it chilled in a large Ziptop bag to ensure it does not dry out.)Add the egg, protein (chicken, ham, pepperoni, shrimp, etc) and vegetables. Toss to combine. Stir in the Italian salad dressing or ***Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing, salt and pepper and MSG to the bowl. Add more dressing as needed to your taste.
- Chill before serving. Serve cold with parmesan cheese, sliced scallions, or bread crumbs sauteed in butter sprinkled on top (optional).
