PARTY BARS
My niece gave me this recipe. I have no idea as to where it originated. I made these bars today for the first time and took them to a family gathering and brought home an empty pan. The bars are chocked full of chocolate chips and maraschino cherries and are very moist. I would suggest using 1/2 of the chips the recipe calls for and maybe adding more cherries. They are Mmm Mmm good! I forgot to ice my party bars but they were plenty rich without the frosting.

Steps:
- Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
- Cream shortening and sugars.
- Beat in eggs, add vanilla and beat until fluffy.
- Add milk and dry ingredients alternately.
- Stir in cherries and chocolate chips.
- Pour into greased jelly roll pan.
- Bake at 325°F for 24-30 minutes.
- Frost with chocolate icing while warm.

- Add the cocoa mixture along with the chopped chocolate, milk, heavy cream, evaporated milk, and salt to a 6-quart slow cooker or larger. If you're serving this with a hot chocolate bar and toppings, consider leaving out the sugar to avoid the hot chocolate being too sweet. If you're serving the hot chocolate solo, add in the sugar.
- Cook the hot chocolate on the high setting for 3-4 hours or on low for 6 hours. Low for 6 hours is what I prefer. Make sure to stir the hot chocolate every hour to keep the chocolate from settling to the bottom.
- Keep on the warm setting if you're serving it hot chocolate bar style with toppings on the side. Leftover hot chocolate can be refrigerated for up to one week and warmed in the microwave before serving.

- Cream the butter and sugar together, mixing well. Blend in 2 unbeaten egg yolks, vanilla and salt. Mix well. Add the flour, blending thoroughly. Press into the bottom of a 9x13 (or I used a square 8x8). Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden brown.
- Take out of the oven and sprinkle immediately with chocolate chips. Gently cover the glass baking dish with a clean hand towel and let stand 5 minutes. The chocolate chips will melt and you can now easily spread them over the bottom layer.
- Beat the 2 egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add 2/3 C. sugar, beating well after each addition.
