This is a recipe I came up with myself. It is great with most Italian dishes. It can be doubled as needed.

½ cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon garlic salt
¼ teaspoon dried rosemary
⅛ teaspoon dried basil
⅛ teaspoon dried thyme
⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, halved lengthwise

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  • In a small bowl, mix butter, garlic salt, rosemary, basil, thyme, garlic powder and Parmesan cheese.
  • Spread each half of the French bread with equal portions of the butter mixture. Sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese, if desired.
  • Place bread halves, crusts down, on a medium baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are very lightly browned.

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons dehydrated onion
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (plus 1 tablespoon for topping)
2 cups milk (OR buttermilk)
2 tablespoons cider vinegar (OMIT IF USING BUTTERMILK)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • To make the buttermilk add the milk and vinegar to a medium size bowl and stir.
  • If using store bought buttermilk, omit the above step.
  • Place all of the dry ingredients (except for the cheese to top the bread) into a large bowl and whisk to combine.
  • Pour in the milk mixture into the flour mixture and stir with a wooden spoon until it's a thick, lumpy and pasty consistency.
  • Spoon the batter evenly into a loaf pan that has been liberally sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Top the batter with the remaining Parmesan cheese and bake in a preheated oven for approximately 60 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.
  • Allow the loaf to cool for 5 minutes and then turn the loaf out onto a cooling rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup fresh grated Parmesan Cheese
1 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
1/4 cup olive oil or vegetable oil
3 cloves garlic (minced (or 3 teaspoons))
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
1 teaspoon dried oregano

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease or spray with nonstick cooking spray a standard 9x5 loaf pan.
  • Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a medium mixing bowl. Gently mix in the grated Parmesan cheese.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil, buttermilk and egg.
  • Pour the liquid ingredients over the dry ingredients. Gently stir and fold the ingredients until all the flour has been incorporated and a wet batter is formed. Gently fold in the herbs and garlic. Be careful not to over-mix.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading to the edges.
  • Bake in the preheated 350 degree oven for 45-50 minutes. When finished, the loaf should be domed and golden, and a toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
  • Cool in the pan for 15 minutes before removing, slicing and serving.
  • Wrap cooled loaves tightly in plastic wrap and store at room temperature for up to a week. For freezer storage, wrap in plastic and aluminum foil and frozen for up to three months.

½ cup shredded Parmesan cheese, divided
½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
1 ½ cups baking mix (such as Bisquick®)
½ cup milk
2 egg whites
1 tablespoon minced onion
¾ teaspoon garlic salt

Steps:

  • Generously grease the inside of a slow cooker with cooking spray. Set aside 1 tablespoon each of Parmesan and Cheddar cheeses.
  • Combine baking mix, milk, remaining Parmesan and Cheddar cheeses, egg whites, minced onion, and garlic salt in a bowl until well mixed. Pour into the prepared slow cooker and sprinkle reserved Parmesan and Cheddar over top.
  • Cook on High until bread is cooked through, about 1 hour.

This Bread Machine Parmesan Garlic Bread comes out so moist and flavorful that you can eat it plain, no butter required!

1 1/3 cups water (11 ounces)
1/3 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
1 tablespoon minced garlic
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese (The powdery stuff.)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons Kosher Salt
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 packet active dry yeast (1/4 oz.)
2 lb. Bread Machine

Steps:

  • Add the water, olive oil, melted butter and minced garlic to the bread pan. I microwaved the butter in a small microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds.
  • Add all of the dry ingredients, except for the yeast, to the bread pan. Finally, make a small depression into the flour with your finger and add the dry yeast to the depression. Make sure you do not allow the yeast to come in contact with any liquids.
  • Select the basic setting on the bread machine and press start. My bread machine took 3 hours and 45 minutes. I also selected the "light" crust option on my bread machine but I normally select "medium". The difference was that the top of the loaf was lighter and softer. You can choose based on your personal crust preference.
  • Once the bread is finished, allow it to cool for 10 minutes.

  • In a bowl or food processor, blend butter, oil and Parmesan cheese. Add garlic, parsley and lemon-pepper; mix or process until smooth. , Slice the bread on the diagonal but not all the way through, leaving slices attached at the bottom. Spread butter mixture on one side of each slice and over the top. Wrap in foil and bake at 400° for 15-20 minutes.
