Enjoy the refreshing taste of the paloma. This popular tequila cocktail is a Mexican favorite, features grapefruit soda, and is very easy to whip up.

Optional: lime wedge (for wetting rim of glass)
Optional: salt (for rim of glass)
2 ounces tequila (blanco or reposado)
1/4 to 1/2 ounce lime juice (fresh; to taste)
4 ounces grapefruit soda

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • If desired, rim a collins glass with salt . Begin by wetting the rim with a lime wedge, then roll it in a small dish of salt.
  • Fill the glass with ice and add the tequila and lime juice.
  • Top it off with grapefruit soda and enjoy.

This is a take on Mexico's lesser known cocktail. It is a little sweet, sour & bitter and mighty refreshing! Perfect for a summer bash or BBQ with friends. Source: Wall Street Journal Cooking & Eating section and Kevin Diedrich of Jasper's Corner, San Francisco. Make ahead and chill! Note: cook time = chill time.

12 ounces white tequila
4 ounces lime juice, fresh squeeze
16 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
4 ounces grapefruit liqueur
2 ounces agave syrup
2 barspoons salt

Steps:

  • Combine ingredients in a pitcher with ice. Stir and strain into sealable container. Chill.
  • Serve chilled or on the rocks or neat, without rocks.

The Paloma is a tequila cocktail that traditionally uses Fresca grapefruit soda. I don't have Fresca so I made one with fresh grapefruit and soda water.

60 ml Tequila (Blanco)
120 ml Grapefruit Juice (freshly squeezed)
1 tbsp Sugar (white, optional)
Soda Water (to fill the glass)

Steps:

  • In a shaker with some ice add the tequila and grapefruit juice and sugar if you are using it. Give a good shake for about 15 seconds, then pour into a Collins glass filled with ice. Top up with soda water and give a quick stir with a straw. Enjoy!
