This is a twist on the Greek classic, ouzo. Simple to make and a unique way to spread some Greek culture.

Number Of Ingredients 5

Ingredients

2 ounces ouzo (room temperature)
1 1/2 ounces lemon juice (more if desired)
3 mint leaves
1 teaspoon honey
3 ounces water (iced; more or less to preference)

Steps:

Gather the ingredients.
Pour ouzo into a glass.
Add lemon juice and mint leaves, and muddle to release the flavors from the mint leaves.
Add honey and mix until it dissolves.
Pour water into the glass and mix. If needed, add more water to dilute the ouzo taste.
Serve and enjoy with a slice of lemon for garnish, if desired.

2 ounces ouzo
4 fresh mint leaves
Juice of 1 lemon
Soda water
Orange slices, for garnish

Steps:

Place the ouzo, mint and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain over ice and top with soda water. Garnish with an orange slice and serve.

3/4 cup Lemon Simple Syrup for Ouzo-Ade
3/4 cup ouzo, chilled
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (from 3 to 4 lemons)
Ice, for serving

Steps:

Stir together all ingredients in a pitcher. Divide among 6 small ice-filled glasses.

With the Greek marinated cheese and olives on my mind I couldn't help but think of Ouzo. Ir would be great sipped with either of the above recipes. Here is my recipe for Homemade Ouzo.

1/2 c water
1/8 c sugar
1/2 tsp chopped and dried angelica root
pinch fresh grated mace
3 1/2 tsp anise extract
2 c pure grain alcohol, like vodka
1 c water

Steps:

1. Make a simple syrup with water and sugar. Add angelica root and mace.
2. Allow to cool, then add alcohol, anise extract and water. Give it a good shake.
3. Age for 1 week and then strain into clean bottles. Allow an additional month for aging.
