OUTRAGEOUS BROWNIES

Outrageous Brownies image

With chopped walnuts and loads of chocolate, it's no wonder that Ina Garden's Outrageous Brownies recipe from Food Network comes with a five-star rating.

Provided by Ina Garten

Categories     dessert

Time 1h5m

Yield 20 large brownies

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 pound unsalted butter
1 pound plus 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
6 ounces unsweetened chocolate
6 extra-large eggs
3 tablespoons instant coffee granules
2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Butter and flour a 12 x 18 x 1-inch baking sheet.
  • Melt together the butter, 1 pound of chocolate chips, and the unsweetened chocolate in a medium bowl over simmering water. Allow to cool slightly. In a large bowl, stir (do not beat) together the eggs, coffee granules, vanilla, and sugar. Stir the warm chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and allow to cool to room temperature.
  • In a medium bowl, sift together 1 cup of flour, the baking powder, and salt. Add to the cooled chocolate mixture. Toss the walnuts and 12 ounces of chocolate chips in a medium bowl with 1/4 cup of flour, then add them to the chocolate batter. Pour into the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20 minutes, then rap the baking sheet against the oven shelf to force the air to escape from between the pan and the brownie dough. Bake for about 15 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Do not overbake! Allow to cool thoroughly, refrigerate, and cut into 20 large squares.

73 CHOCOLATE DESSERT RECIPES YOU SHOULD TRY, RANGING FROM ...

From yahoo.com
  • Three-Ingredient Chocolate Truffles. These decadent bites come together with just chocolate, cocoa powder and heavy cream. Since there aren’t many ingredients, choose a higher-quality chocolate (like discs or a favorite bar) instead of chocolate chips, which often contain stabilizers.
  • Chocolate Glazed Espresso Cheesecake. If you ask us, chocolate and coffee go together like peanut butter and jelly. This cheesecake is extra tall and rich, and while it does require a water bath to bake, the results are so worth it.
  • Chocolate ‘High-Ratio’ Sheet Cake. What the heck is “high ratio”? That’s baker’s lingo for the higher ratio of sugar in the recipe, which yields a tender, moist crumb that’s light as air (and in this case, ultra-chocolatey).
  • Easy Chocolate Marshmallow Cups. These cuties look like they came from a bakery but are so simple to DIY. The chocolate coating gets its snap from coconut oil instead of tempering—ingenious, if you ask us.
  • Chocolate-Peppermint Linzer Cookies. These sandwiches have cookie texture, brownie flavor and plenty of sweet, minty filling. Even better, the pink color comes from peppermint candies instead of food dye.
  • Gluten-Free Super-Moist Chocolate Cake. Here’s official proof that gluten-free desserts can be just as delicious as their gluten-full counterparts. A kitchen scale will be your BFF here, since weight measurements are more accurate than volume, and accuracy is key.
  • Chocolate-Stuffed Brownie Bites. Deeply chocolatey brownie batter meets chocolate candies meets mini dessert. Pinch us, we must be dreaming. Get the recipe.
  • Mexican Hot Chocolate Cookies. These cookies are intensely fudgy, of course, but they also have a spicy twist. They’re rolled in cayenne-spiked cinnamon sugar for a bit of heat that’s reminiscent of cinnamon candies.
  • Chocolate Skillet Cake. Layer cakes always bring the oohs and ahhs, but you can’t beat the simple pleasure of diving into a molten skillet of chocolate cake with a spoon.

13 OF THE BEST HEALTHY BROWNIE RECIPES - GREATIST

From greatist.com
  • 3-Ingredient Flourless Brownies. A brownie made from just three everyday ingredients, zero butter or oil, and free of added sugar? It seems almost too good to be true.
  • Flourless Double Chocolate Brownies. This brownie recipe may do away with the flour, but it makes sure to keep all the other essential elements intact with healthier alternatives to boot: The emphasis on quality chocolate, potassium-packed coconut sugar to sweeten things up, and of course, that all-important brittle top.
  • Coconut Flour Brownies. These coconut flour-based goodies are low-carb but don’t compromise on taste. Instead, the focus is on healthy fats, from “good” cholesterol-boosting coconut oil to walnuts for added protein and a bonus crunch factor.
  • Healthy Brownies With Pumpkin. Pumpkin takes over for flour in these gluten-free treats. As a result, each chocolaty square is loaded with vitamin A for healthy vision and cell function.
  • Fudgy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Brownies. These chewy brownies are made a bit more wholesome thanks to the use of natural nut butter (sans the heart-clogging hydrogenated oils) and applesauce instead of butter.
  • Fudge Brownies With Greek Yogurt. A faithful substitute for excess fat in baked goods, Greek yogurt does double duty here, stepping in for both butter and eggs to keep these babies from drying out while adding a boost of lean protein.
  • Zucchini Chocolate Brownies. There’s a devious satisfaction that comes from biting into a chocolate-packed, chocolate chip-topped brownie, knowing that two cups of potassium-packed zucchini were packed into the batter.
  • Grain-Free Sweet Potato Brownies. Mashed sweet potatoes give your brownies a grain-free, superfood upgrade: While powering them up with cancer-fighting beta-carotenes, their natural sweetness cuts down on the need for too much sugar.
  • Avocado Brownies. With a mild flavor and chock-full of fiber and monounsaturated fat, avocados are the ideal alternative to butter for healthier baking.
  • Double Chocolate Quinoa Brownies. It’s not just for salads or an alternative to fried rice: Quinoa can do dessert too! The fiber- and protein-packed seed plays a central role in these sugar-dusted beauties.
