Steps:
- Combine ingredients and knead dough for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Roll dough out and cut around hand or cut circles out for making hand imprints. Use cookie cutters for ornaments or gift tags. If necessary, slightly dampen pieces to make them stick together.
- Make a small hole for the hanger and prick to prevent air bubbles.
- Bake at 300ºF about 20 to 25 minutes or until golden. You may have to bake considerably longer depending on how thick your items are. They may not feel hard right away but will harden as they cool.
- Paint and decorate as desired. Acrylic paints work best and use a varnish to make them shiny.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
- Combine the flour, salt and water; mix well and knead for 10 minutes. Roll out on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut into desired shapes and make holes for hanging. Bake for 30 minutes; allow to cool.
- Decorate with poster paints or tube paints. Allow to dry and spray with clear polyurethane on both sides to preserve. Use ribbon or yarn pieces to hang.

- Make your salt dough. The first thing that you will need to do is make your salt dough! It's not a good idea to make salt dough ahead of time as it does start to dry out, so when doing this activity with older kids I like to include making salt dough as part of the activity.
- Roll out the salt dough. Roll the salt dough into a ball and flatten it either using the palm of your hand or a rolling pin. The flattened ball of salt dough needs to be just slightly larger than the child's hand who you would like to take handprints from.
- Make a handprint in the salt dough. Press your child's hand onto the salt dough to create a hand print. For babies and younger toddlers it might take a few tries before you get the perfect handprint imprint.
- Cut around the salt dough handprint. Carefully cut around the salt dough handprint using a sharp knife. Take your time doing this as this will make the shape of your salt dough ornament.
- Make a hole for hanging your salt dough ornament. You need to make a small hole in the salt dough at the top of the handprint if you want to be able to hang your Santa handprint ornament up with ribbon.
- Baking salt dough. Now you have created the shape for your salt dough ornament you need to dry out the salt dough. We have found that the best way to do this is to place the salt dough in the oven for a few hours (until the salt dough has completely dried out) at about 100 degree (celsius).
- Paint salt dough white (optional) Paint the dried out salt dough with white acrylic paint. This will give you a good base colour to begin painting your santa design onto the handprint ornament.
- Paint Santa's face onto the salt dough handprint. Once the white paint has dried it is time to turn the salt dough handprint into your Santa craft!
- Add ribbon to your Santa handprint ornament. Once the sealer is fully dry thread some ribbon through the hole you made in your salt dough at the top of your Santa handprint.
