Good Old Fashioned Pancakes image

This is a great recipe that I found in my Grandma's recipe book. Judging from the weathered look of this recipe card, this was a family favorite.

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 ¼ cups milk
1 egg
3 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Make a well in the center and pour in the milk, egg and melted butter; mix until smooth.
  • Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium-high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.

This recipe can be modified with whole wheat flour, fruit, or however you like your IHOP pancakes. Even make a Funny Face chocolat chip pancake for the kids

1 1/4 cups milk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda

Steps:

  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Put all ingredients in a bowl and combine(mix) until smooth.
  • Pour the batter by spoonfuls into the hot pan, forming 5-inch circles.
  • When the edges appear to harden, flip the pancakes (they should be light brown.).

I've had this recipe for years, not sure where I got it but it's much better the the ones I find now claiming to be an IHOP clone.

1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1/3 cup cream of wheat (1 minute kind)
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Preheat griddle.
  • Spray with pan release.
  • Combine all ingredients in bowl and mix until smooth.
  • Pour batter by 1/3 cupsful onto the griddle and cook for 1 - 2 minutes per side or till brown.
  • Makes 8 - 10 pancakes.
