Number Of Ingredients 13

1 large egg
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
⅔ cup fresh orange juice
⅓ cup boiling water
3 tablespoons grated orange zest
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
¾ teaspoon salt
½ cup chopped walnuts
1 cup dates, pitted and chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  • Combine orange juice, water, and orange zest in a liquid measuring cup.
  • Beat egg slightly in a bowl. Add butter and sugar; beat until smooth. Add orange juice mixture and stir to combine.
  • Combine flour, baking powder, soda, and salt in a separate bowl. Stir in walnuts and dates. Pour into batter and stir to moisten. Spoon into the prepared loaf pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 1 hour. Cool in the loaf pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and finish cooling.

1 pkg [8 ounces] pitted dates
1 1/4 c boiling water
1 1/2 c brown sugar, firmly packed
6 Tbsp butter, room temperature
1 egg beaten
2 1/4 c sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. cut dates in small pieces into medium-size bowl,pour boilling water over.Stir in sugar and butter until butter melts,cool.Stier in beaten egg.
  • 2. Sift flour,soda,and salt onto wax paper,stier into date mixture just until blended.pour into greased loaft pan.let stand 15 min.
  • 3. Bake in moederate oven[350f 1 hour and 10 min,or until wooden pick inserted deep into loft comes out clean, cool in pan 5 min,turn out on wire rack,cool completely.
  • 4. wrap in wax paper, foil,or trasparent wrap,store at least 1 day before slicing.

1 c dates
1 medium orange
1/2 c nuts
2 c flour
1 c sugar
1 c water, boiling
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 Tbsp shortening (butter)

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 Put dates and orange rind through medium blade of grinder.
  • 2. reserve orange juice and add boiling water to make one cup liquid. Pour over date and orange peel. Add shortening (butter) to date mixture.
  • 3. In a large bowl, put sifted dry ingredients. Slowly add date mixture, vanilla and well beaten egg. Add nuts.
  • 4. Bake in a well-greased loaf pan, 1 hour at 350.

1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
3 large eggs, beaten
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1-1/3 cups buttermilk
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chopped dates
1 tablespoon grated orange zest
GLAZE
1/4 cup orange juice
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons grated orange zest

Steps:

  • In a bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs; mix well. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Fold in walnuts, dates and orange zest. Pour into two greased and floured 8x4-in. loaf pans. Bake at 350° for 60-65 minutes or until done. Combine glaze ingredients; spoon half over hot bread. Cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pans; spoon remaining glaze over bread.

We enjoyed this wonderful breakfast treat while visiting a Bread and Breakfast in North Carolina. Warm and delicious! There may seem like a lot of steps to this recipe but most of the time is spent letting the dough rise. It truly is an easy recipe; you just have to plan ahead. Enjoy!

2 Tbsp active dry yeast
1/2 c warm water
1 c milk
3/4 c orange juice
1 c sugar
1 Tbsp grated orange peel
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
6 1/2 - 7 c bread flour, divided
2 tsp ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large mixing bowl.
  • 2. Heat milk and orange juice to 110 degrees.
  • 3. Add heated orange juice mixture to yeast mixture.
  • 4. Stir in 1/2 cup sugar, orange peel, salt, egg and 3 cups of flour to yeast mixture.
  • 5. Beat mixture until smooth.
  • 6. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  • 7. Turn dough onto a floured surface.
  • 8. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 6 to 8 minutes.
  • 9. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
  • 10. Punch dough down after it has doubled.
  • 11. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; divide in half.
  • 12. Roll each portion into a 15 x 7 inch rectangle. Brush with water.
  • 13. Combine cinnamon and remaining sugar and sprinkle over dough to within 1 inch of edges.
  • 14. Tightly roll up jelly-roll style, starting at short side; pinch seams to seal.
  • 15. Place seam down in two greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • 16. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans and place on wire racks to cool.
  • 17. Enjoy!

CRANBERRY ORANGE ZUCHINNI BREAD

I love cranberry orange bread, and zuchinni bread so I decided to try and combine them both.. this is it! Hope you enjoy it!

2 eggs
1 1/4 c sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp orange extract
1 tsp nutmeg
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c canola oil
3 c peeled, grated, zuchinni
3 c healthy heart bisquick
1 c dried cranberries
1/2 c walnuts, chopped

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 325* In a mixing bowl, combine first 7 ingredients and mix well.
  • 2. fold in zuchinni, and add bisquick a little at a time stirring well. Fold in cranberries and walnuts last.
  • 3. Place mixture into 2 loaf pans, and bake approx. 45 min. to 1 hour.. depending on your oven.. toothpick in the middle should come out clean... Enjoy!!

2 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp butter
1/2 c boiling water
2 Tbsp orange rind, grated
1/3 c orange juice
1 c sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/2-1 c walnuts, chopped (to taste)

Steps:

  • 1. Grease a loaf pan.
  • 2. Sift flour, baking soda, baking ppowder, & salt.
  • 3. Melt butter in boiling water. Add orange rind, orange juice, sugar, vanilla, and egg. Blend.
  • 4. Sift dry ingredients over orange mixture.
  • 5. Add nuts.
  • 6. Stir just until flour is damp. Batter will be lumpy. Pour into prepared pan.
  • 7. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or till center tests done.

1 c buttermilk
1 large orange rind
1 c chopped nuts
1 c chopped dates

1/4 c chopped nuts for top

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2. in a large bowl, cream sugar and butter .
  • 3. Add eggs one at at time, beating after ea. blend flour, salt, baking soda, sift together.
  • 4. Add buttermilk and orange juice alternately to egg mixture.
  • 5. Fold in orange rind, nuts and daters which have been dredged w/flour to the batter.
  • 6. pour into greased and floured pan, making one angel cake pan or 2 loaf pans.
  • 7. bake at 350 for 1 hour.
  • 8. remove from the oven. Let cool for 20 min. and turn out on rack
  • 9. while still warm, pour a glaze of 1 grated orange rind, 1 c. sugar, 1c. orange juice heated until sugar dissolves, over cakes top and sides.
