ORANGE BARBECUE SAUCE

When Jerry and I got married, I worked with a friend to choose food that our farmer friends with big appetites would like. The highlight was a pig roast topped with this tangy barbecue sauce.

Yield 4 cups.

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 cups ketchup
1 cup prepared mustard
1 cup orange juice
1 large onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
4 teaspoons liquid smoke, optional
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoons pepper

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes. May be refrigerated for up to 1 week. Use as a basting or dipping sauce for pork, poultry or beef.

....mmmm, good! You'd think they were barbecued wieners you'd grilled outside, instead baked in the oven. Add this with my favorite Potato Celery Supreme dish, and green beans on the side and you have a meal!

Number Of Ingredients 13

3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon sugar
salt
pepper
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup white vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 dash Tabasco sauce
12 hot dogs or 12 franks

Steps:

  • Simmer onion in oil until golden.
  • Add all remaining ingredients, except wieners; simmer 15 minutes.
  • Split wieners; place cut side down in shallow baking dish.
  • Pour barbecue sauce over wieners.
  • Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, basting several times.

2 cups bottled barbecue sauce
1 (10 ounce) jar orange marmalade
1/4-1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1 (1 lb) package hot dogs, quartered and butterflied or 1 lb mini smoked cocktail franks

Steps:

  • In a 2-quart casserole, combine the barbecue sauce, marmalade, and mustard.
  • Stir in the hot dogs; cover.
  • Microwave on HIGH for 5-8 minutes, or until hot, stirring after every 2 minutes.
  • OR, heat in a large saucepan over medium heat until the sauce bubbles around the edges of the pan and everything is thoroughly heated through.
