THE BEST OLD FASHIONED MEATLOAF RECIPE YOU WILL EAT

The Best Old Fashioned Meatloaf Recipe You Will Eat image

This old-fashioned meatloaf recipe has been passed down for a few generations and is still one of my favorites meatloaf recipes ever! See why!

Provided by Marissa

Categories     Dinner

Time 1h15m

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons snipped parsley
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground sage
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/4 cup catsup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard

Steps:

  • First, in a large bowl combine eggs and milk then stir in breadcrumbs. Next add onion parsley, salt, sage, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Mix them together a few times then add in the beef and mix well. I suggest using your hands, and this is how I was taught, it mixes faster and better than using a spoon of any kind.
  • Shape your meatloaf into a 'loaf' shape if not using a bread pan, though I suggest you do, or use the mini loaf pan I mentioned above. Then go ahead and bake in a 350-degree oven for 50 minutes. Then make sure to spoon off excess fat.
  • Mix together the ketchup, sugar, and dry mustard, mix it well then spread over the top of the meatloaf.
  • Then return to the oven for 10-15 minutes. This makes about six servings.

VERY OLD MEATLOAF RECIPE

Very Old Meatloaf Recipe image

At present time (2012), this is a 207-year-old meatloaf recipe, that has been handed down through our family since my great-great-grandmother back in 1807. It may be older than this, but that's as far back as I can trace it. Originally it was made using deer meat, but I prefer using beef as did my Mother. Enjoy.

Provided by Diana Rattray

Categories     Entree     Dinner

Time 1h32m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20 or 85/15)
20 saltine crackers, crushed
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
1 large egg
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/3 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
For Topping:
1/2 to 3/4 cup ketchup or barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients. Pre-heat the oven to 350 F.
  • Grease an 8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch loaf pan or line it with foil and then lightly grease it. Alternatively, for a free-form loaf, line a rimmed baking pan with foil.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with the crushed saltines, onion, green pepper, egg, paprika, garlic powder, salt, thyme, black pepper, 1/3 cup of ketchup , milk, and Worcestershire sauce .
  • Pack the meat mixture into the loaf pan or shape it and place it on the baking pan.
  • Bake the meatloaf for 1 hour. Carefully pour excess grease into a can or jar (dispose of it in the trash after it cools).
  • Spread the meatloaf with 1/2 to 3/4 cup of ketchup or barbecue sauce and continue baking for 15 minutes longer, or until the meatloaf registers at least 160 F on an instant-read food thermometer inserted into the center. (If you have instead swapped ground turkey or chicken for the beef, cook the loaf to an internal temperature of 165 F.)
  • Let the meatloaf rest for ten minutes before slicing so it holds together well. Then, serve and enjoy!

MEATLOAF (TRADITIONAL RECIPE WITH OATMEAL)

Meatloaf (Traditional Recipe with Oatmeal) image

This easy, wholesome meatloaf with oatmeal may be an old-school recipe, but that doesn't mean it's not still amazingly delicious! Tender ground beef is blended with seasoning and oats, then baked with a classic ketchup glaze- it's the perfect traditional meatloaf.

Provided by Angela

Categories     Beef Dishes     Dinner Recipes     Main Dish

Time 1h20m

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 lbs ground beef ((ground chuck is preferred, or use a ground beef/ground pork combo))
1 1/2 cups quick oats ((or plain breadcrumbs))
1/2 cup white onion ((or yellow onion, finely diced))
3 large eggs
1 Tbsp meatloaf seasoning ((see recipe, or use 1 packet store-bought seasoning mix))
1/3 cup ketchup ((plus more for topping the meatloaf if desired))

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x5 loaf pan or line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add the ground beef, quick oats, diced onion, eggs, meatloaf seasoning, and ketchup. Mix until just combined, do not over-mix.
  • Transfer the meatloaf mixture into your prepared loaf pan then shape so that the loaf is mounded at the top. Or transfer the loaf mixture to your baking sheet and form it into a loaf approximately the same size as a loaf pan (9x5-inch).
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50 minutes, remove from the oven and coat with an additional 1/3 cup of ketchup or BBQ sauce if desired. Return to the oven and finish cooking for an additional 10-20 minutes. Your meatloaf is done when it has an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  • Remove from the oven when done, drain off the excess grease, and then allow your meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

  • Meatloaf ... Add the Onion Soup Mix to a large bowl along with the ketchup, eggs, bread crumbs, milk, and water. Mix well to combine. Then add the meat and gently mix until combined with the other ingredients; over mixing can create a dense tough meatloaf.
  • Bake ... I prefer to free form on a baking sheet lined with parchment or foil, but you can always use a loaf pan. Bake on the middle shelf at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hr. This will depend on what type of pan you cook the meatloaf in. A free form loaf usually cooks quicker than one in a loaf pan.
  • Topping ... If using a jar gravy, add the ketchup and gravy to a small pot and reheat on medium low heat. You can also use a package mix, follow the package directions, and add the ketchup at the end of cooking.
  • About 15 minutes before the loaf is done, spoon on a little of the gravy on top of the loaf, then finish cooking in the oven. The rest over the gravy will be poured over the top when you serve it. Also, if you prefer to use your favorite tomato based sauce, please do so.
