Old Fashioned Banana Nut Bread image

A good basic banana bread recipe made with ingredients that you probably have on hand. Freezes well.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon sour milk or 1 tablespoon orange juice
2 eggs, beaten
3 ripe bananas, mashed
2 cups flour
1/4 cup chopped nuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Mix butter and sugar together until smooth.
  • Mix baking soda and sour milk or orange juice, and set aside.
  • Add eggs, bananas, baking soda mixture, and flour to butter and sugar mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in nuts.
  • Pour into greased or buttered loaf pan.
  • Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
  • Cool completely before slicing.

This recipe is slightly modified from one in the 1945 American Women's Cookbook (the God of all cookbooks)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup mashed banana (2 medium sized bananas, over ripe)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup sifted flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil (can use vegetable oil too, but it comes out moister this way)
2 eggs
1 cup sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Cream oil and sugar together.
  • Lightly beat eggs and add to creamed mixture.
  • Combine lemon juice and bananas and add to creamed mixture.
  • Sift dry ingredients together and combine with rest of ingredients.
  • Bake in a well greased loaf pan for 45 minutes to one hour. Use toothpick inserted into center to check for doneness (when it comes out dry, it's done.).
  • Serve with butter or plain.

This is a real banana 'bread', not too sweet. Very easy too, enjoy :) Will post a photo next time I make it.

2 c flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 c butter
1/2 c sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 bananas, mashed
1/2 c buttermilk
1 dash(es) nutmeg
1/2 c chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • 1. Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, & salt. Cream butter with sugar, then add eggs. Mix bananas with buttermilk then blend into butter mixture. Stir in dry mixture, combine well, then add nutmeg and nuts.
  • 2. Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x4 inch loaf pan.
  • Combine sugar, butter, bananas, eggs, flour, baking soda, milk, salt and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl; beat well. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake in a preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
