1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup oatmeal (not instant)
1 cup pitted dates, chopped
2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg

Steps:

  • Bring milk almost to a simmer. Place oatmeal and dates in a large mixing bowl and add milk. Set aside to cool to room temperature. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. When oat mixture is cool, beat in egg. Stir in dry ingredients, mixing well.
  • Pour batter into a buttered 9x5 inch loaf pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until the top is crusty and golden. Cool before slicing.

1 cup oat bran
1 cup chopped dates
1/3 cup non-fat powdered milk
1/2 cup molasses
3/4 cup hot water
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 cup egg substitute
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven 350 degrees F.
  • Spray 9x5x3 inch loaf pan with pan spray.
  • Mix oat bran, dates,dry milk, molasses, hot water, butter and egg substitute in large bowl; Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Spread into prepared pan, bake 30-40 minutes; until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Cool 5 minutes, loosen sides; remove from pan let cool completely before slicing.

I created this for my bread machine, which makes two 1-lb loaves simultaneously (recipe is per each loaf). This is a delicious but not too sweet yeast bread. Excellent served fresh or toasted, with butter or cream cheese. ENJOY!

3/4 cup water
4 teaspoons olive oil
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon molasses
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup oatmeal
2 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon bread machine yeast
1/2 cup chopped dates

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients except dates into bread machine pan in the order listed. (Two tbsps of packed dark brown sugar may be substituted for the sugar and molasses.).
  • Start machine on "sweet" cycle.
  • Add dates when machine's fruit/nut signal beeps. (If your machine has no fruit/nut signal, add dates about 20 minutes after starting machine.).
  • Note: Dough may appear too moist, even wet as the baking cycle begins, but this is normal; bread should come out fine.

A date filled bar with a chewy oatmeal crust. This is my grandmother's recipe, which my whole family loves.

1 ½ cups rolled oats
1 ½ cups sifted pastry flour
¼ teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon baking soda
1 cup packed brown sugar
¾ cup butter, softened
¾ pound pitted dates, diced
1 cup water
⅓ cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl, combine oats, pastry flour, salt, 1 cup brown sugar, and baking soda. Mix in the butter until crumbly. Press half of the mixture into the bottom of a 9 inch square baking pan.
  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the dates, water, and 1/3 cup brown sugar. Bring to a boil, and cook until thickened. Stir in lemon juice, and remove from heat. Spread the filling over the base, and pat the remaining crumb mixture on top.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in preheated oven, or until top is lightly toasted. Cool before cutting into squares.

I made this last night and it is heavenly. The recipe comes from the cookbooklet that came with my BM. This would be great the next toasted with some peanut butter on or some jam.

1 1/2 cups hot water (115 - 125 F)
2 tablespoons canola oil
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour
1 1/2 cups quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 cup fine chopped dates
2 tablespoons fast rising yeast

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients into the bread pan in the following order:.
  • water, oil, brown sugar, salt, flour. oatmeal, dates, yeast.
  • With your finge make a samll indentation for the yeast so it does not touch the water.
  • Carefully insert pan into bread maker. Choose express bake and start.
  • Once it is done, carefully run a rubber spatual around the sides to loosen.
  • Place on rack to cool. Enjoy!
