Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 3

2 frozen puff pastry round sheets, thawed
5 tablespoons chocolate-hazelnut spread (such as Nutella®)
1 egg, lightly beaten

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out 1 puff pastry sheet and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Spread chocolate-hazelnut spread evenly onto puff pastry with the back of a spoon. Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry and place on top.
  • Place a glass or Mason jar face-down in the center of the puff pastry. Cut pastry into 4 equal strips with a sharp knife, stopping at the border of the glass. Cut through each quarter again, making 8 strips, and again, ending up with a total of 16 equal parts, while keeping the center intact. Twist 2 parts away from each other; pull outward and seal seams together. Repeat with the rest of the parts until pastry resembles a star.
  • Brush top with beaten egg.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until puffy and golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes. Cool slightly, about 5 minutes, before serving.

Time 52m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 (17.5 ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
4 tablespoons chocolate-hazelnut spread (such as Nutella®), or more to taste, at room temperature
1 egg, lightly beaten

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out one puff pastry sheet into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Lightly score puff pastry into the shape of a Christmas tree (triangle) with a wide base. Spread chocolate-hazelnut spread over the triangle in a thin layer with the back of a spoon.
  • Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry to a large rectangle and place on top of the first one. Carefully trace the shape of the chocolate covered triangle underneath and cut out the Christmas tree shape and the trunk. Pull away excess pastry.
  • Lightly score 2 lines down the middle of the triangle to form a tree trunk that is narrower at the top and gets wider towards the base. Using the trunk as a guide, cut branches into the sides of the triangle.
  • Twist the branches away from you, trying to get in 2 turns on the lower branches. Continue moving up the tree, twisting away from you as you go.
  • Cut a small star out of the excess pastry; place on top of the tree. Brush the star and tree with beaten egg.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until puffy and golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes. Cool slightly, about 5 minutes. Slide onto a serving plate, using a piece of parchment paper if needed.

  • In a bowl, add in both warm milk and water. Add in sugar and mix. Sprinkle in the yeast and mix again. Leave it to activate for 3-5 minutes. When it gets foamy then it's ready to be used.
  • In a standing bowl mixer, add in the flour, melted butter, sugar, salt and the yeast mixture. Mix to incorporate and knead for 10 minutes. Form dough into a bowl and place it in a greased bowl. Coat the dough with some oil to avoid any crust forming on its surface. Cover the bowl tightly with cling film and leave the dough in a warm and draft free place until it doubles in size.
  • Form the dough into a log and cut it into 4 portions. Take each portion and form it into a ball. Take a ball and roll it into a disk that's a bit bigger than 8 inch (20 cm) diameter. Use a base of a pan as guidance (or any item of your choice). Repeat with the rest of the balls. Keep them between baking sheets to avoid them sticking to each other.
  • Take one rolled dough. Use a 8 inch base pan and press lightly to mark it on the dough. Remove the pan. Spoon in some Nutella in the marked area and spread evenly, again in the same marked area. Take another rolled dough and gently place it on top. Repeat the same and finish the stack with the final rolled dough without Nutella on top. Now carefully and swiftly slide a baking sheet underneath the stack.

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Be sure not to use a silicone baking mat for this recipe because you will be cutting your pastry puff directly on the pan and you don’t want to ruin your baking mat.
  • Follow any instructions that the box may have about laying out your crust. The pastry crust that I bought had me remove the puff pastry from the freezer about 20 minutes ahead of time, but no more than 40 minutes.
  • Be very slow and careful when opening up the puff pastry as you don’t want to crack the dough. Lay one puff pastry sheet directly onto the pan in a single layer.
  • Place a large bowl (approximately 12″ wide) on the center of the puff pastry and cut the puff pastry dough that extends past the bowl with a knife, pastry wheel or pizza cutter. I used a sharp knife and liked that I could have very precise control while cutting the dough into strips later.
