This is from an Old Betty Crocker Ad from 1945. They are really good.

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 Tbsp butter
1 c brown sugar packed
1 3/4 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 c nuts (opt.)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 c water

Steps:

  • 1. Cream 6 tbsp. butter with brown sugar. Stir rest of ingredients into creamed mixture alternating with 1/4 c. water. Blend in 1/2 c. nuts. Knead well with hands. Shape into 1 roll 1 1/2" high 2" wide and about 8" long. Wrap in wax paper or saran wrap chilling until firm. Cut with sharp knife into slices 1/8" thick. Place 1" apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake 6 min in 400o oven Remove from baking sheet as soon as they are done. Approx. 6 dozen cookies

1 cup packed brown sugar
6 tablespoons butter
¼ cup water
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup chopped almonds

Steps:

  • Mix brown sugar, butter or margarine, and water. Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in nuts and mix well.
  • Shape in roll 2 1/2 inches in diameter, cover and chill until firm.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Cut dough into 1/8-1/4 inch slices. Bake on greased cookie sheet 8-10 minutes.
