The nuts are a must as they add texture that 's is missing from the crust, but actually the crust isn't all that important in this recipe.

NON-FRUIT COBBLER

Non-Fruit Cobbler image

This recipe is the result of a mistake. My mother in law was making one of her peach cobblers and forgot to add the peaches. Everyone loved to bread portion of the cobbler so much that the kids starting asking her to make the cobbler without fruit.

Provided by Mary D

Categories     Other Desserts

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 stick butter (margarine) butter makes it richer
1 c sugar
1 c self rising flour
1 c milk (any kind will work)

Steps:

  • 1. Melt butter until bubbly in a 325 degree oven. While melting mix remaining ingredients. When butter is melted pour batter into pan and bake until golden brown approx 25 mins.
  • 2. It's great served with ice cream while hot. If you just have to have fruit than after you pour the batter in over the butter add a large can of sliced peaches or your favorite fruit. If you use more than one can of fruit be sure to drain one of them. Fruit cocktail makes a good cobbler also.

  • Arrange cleaned and prepared fruit into an 8 x 8 baking dish or 9-inch pie plate (no need to peel peaches, apples, plums ...). Sprinkle with sugar (and cinnamon, if using). Stir together until mixed in the dish. Feel free to use more fruit and use a 9x13 dish instead if you prefer a higher fruit:topping ratio.
  • Combine the 3 topping ingredients (not the butter) in a bowl and stir with a fork until it forms a crumbly mixture. Sprinkle on top of the fruit and drizzle melted butter over top of the cobbler before baking.
  • Bake for 30-45 minutes, depending on the size of the pan. The fruit should be bubbly and the topping browning slightly. If you have a convection setting, use that the last 10 minutes of the bake for a crisper topping.

A COOK'S QUEST: FRUIT COBBLER
