THE REAL MOJITO

The Real Mojito image

This is an authentic recipe for mojito. I sized the recipe for one serving, but you can adjust it accordingly and make a pitcher full. It's a very refreshing drink for hot summer days. Be careful when drinking it, however. If you make a pitcher you might be tempted to drink the whole thing yourself, and you just might find yourself talking Spanish in no time! Tonic water can be substituted instead of the soda water but the taste is different and somewhat bitter.

Categories     World Cuisine Recipes     Latin American     Caribbean

Time 10m

Yield 1

Number Of Ingredients 6

10 fresh mint leaves
½ lime, cut into 4 wedges
2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
1 cup ice cubes
1 ½ fluid ounces white rum
½ cup club soda

Steps:

  • Place mint leaves and 1 lime wedge into a sturdy glass. Use a muddler to crush the mint and lime to release the mint oils and lime juice. Add 2 more lime wedges and the sugar, and muddle again to release the lime juice. Do not strain the mixture. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice. Pour the rum over the ice, and fill the glass with carbonated water. Stir, taste, and add more sugar if desired. Garnish with the remaining lime wedge.

Pomegranate Mojito image

Pomegranate Mojito - Everyone will love this fruity twist on a classic mojito recipe! The tart pomegranates and lime blend beautifully and are paired with simple syrup, mint, and white rum for a refreshing cocktail that's perfect all year long!

Provided by Averie Sunshine

Categories     Alcohol

Time 7m

Number Of Ingredients 11

8 mint leaves
1 ounce lime juice
½ ounce simple syrup* (See Notes)
1 or 2 lime wedges
1 ounce pomegranate juice
1½ ounces white rum
Crushed ice, as needed
Club soda, as needed
Mint sprig, for garnishing
Lime wedge, for garnishing
Pomegranate arils, for garnishing

Steps:

  • Add the mint leaves, lime juice, simple syrup, and lime wedges to a highball cocktail glass and muddle to release the flavor of the mint and limes. Tip - If you don't have a muddler, the handle of a wooden spoon usually works pretty well or you can slap and roll the mint between your palms to release the flavor.
  • Pour in the pomegranate juice.
  • Fill the glass all the way to the top with crushed ice and add the rum. Stir with a bar spoon.
  • Top off with club soda and garnish with a mint sprig, lime wedge, and pomegranate arils. Add a straw next to the mint garnish and enjoy immediately.

  • In a sturdy, heavy-bottomed, tall cocktail glass, add the sugar and 3 sprigs of the mint (we’ll reserve the last sprig for garnish).
  • Muddle the mint with the sugar about 5 to 10 times, until the mint is very fragrant (not so much that the mint completely falls apart).
  • Pour in the rum and the lime juice, and gently stir a few times to help dissolve the sugar. Fill the glass with ice.
  • Fill the glass with club soda nearly to the top. Gently stir in a circular motion to combine, then use your spoon to drag some of the muddled mint higher up into the glass.

  • Remove from heat and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Strain the simple syrup through a sieve to remove the mint leaves and lime wedges. Chill in fridge until cold. Store in an airtight container, in the fridge, for up to 7 days.

  • Muddle the mint and limes: Add the limes, mint, and rum to large glass. You can muddle right into the pitcher, but I find adding everything to a large glass is much easier to the limes can't slip away. Muddle until the limes are crushed and mint leaves are bruised.
  • Finish the mojito: You can add ice straight to the pitcher now or put ice individually in glasses to avoid having the mojito in your pitcher becoming watered down. Add the muddled mint and lime to your pitcher and rinse the glass with 1/2 cup soda water. Add the rest of the soda to the pitcher along with the simple syrup, mix with a large spoon, and serve.

2017-11-08 To make no cook refrigerator oatmeal take 1/4 cup of uncooked oats and pour them into your mason jar or container of choice. I like using 8 ounce mason jars because they are the perfect size and easy to seal, but a bowl with plastic wrap will work just fine. You can use old fashion (rolled) oats or quick cooking oats for this recipe.

  • Mix 1 cup of hot water with 1 cup of sugar and keep stirring until all the sugar dissolves. Let the mixture cool down and store in the fridge for up to 1 month.
  • Pull about 8 mint leaves from the lower part of your mint sprigs and keep the upper, more aromatic and attractive part for later use as garnish. In case you are using spearmint, which is a sweeter, more delicate type of mint, there is no need to muddle the leaves at all. All you need to do to get the flavor out of your mint is slap it sharply a couple of times. Then, place the mint into a frozen highball glass. Next add 1 part sugar syrup, 1 part fresh lime juice (all solids strained out) and 2 parts light rum. Fill 3/4 of the glass with ice cubes or crushed ice and stir until all ingredients are nicely mixed together. Fill your glass to the top with ice and pour in the sparkling water. Give the drink a gentle final stir and toss in a straw. As a final touch, choose a couple of nice looking mint sprigs, hold them together into a tight bunch and slightly bruise the leaves by hitting them on the back side of your hand and place them right next to the straw. This will release more minty a
