NANA'S APPLE CRUMBLE
A family favorite, this apple crumble was originally my grandmother Hazel's recipe which my mom made on a regular basis. She would make two at a time to take to sick or shut-in friends, or to potlucks. There is never any left. Serve warm with French vanilla yogurt.

NANA'S PIE CRUST
This recipe comes from my Nana growing up. She gave me the recipe and my husband says it's the best he's ever eaten. And for me that's a HUGE compliment because he's got some great cooks in his family. I use this recipe for pot pies as well as dessert pies.

Stir with a wooden spoon until they are softened. Remove from heat and cool while you roll out dough. Remove dough from fridge and slice into three equal parts. Return on part to fridge (for 3-4 days) or freezer. Roll out other two pieces on floured wax paper. Wax paper is 12 inches and you've rolled it enough when you reach the width end of the paper. Put crust in 9-inch glass pie plate. Crumble up graham crackers and sprinkle on bottom of crust. Pour in apple mixture. Add a little freshly grated lemon zest for zing. Sprinkle tapioca or flour over the apples. Cut butter into pats and top apples. Add top crust and secure with bottom crust. Fork whip egg white and brush over the crust. Sprinkle with a handful of sugar. Cut two or three slits in dough to allow steam to vent. Bake 50 minutes in a 350-degree oven.

NANA'S SMALL FRIED APPLE PIES RECIPE - (4.4/5)
Provided by jab120638

Steps:
- Peel the apples and chop them up. Put them in a pot with the sugar and cinnamon. Heat on low until apples are soft and sugar is dissolved. Remove from pot and mash into very small chunks. Roll out the pie crust on a lightly floured board. Using a 3 inch cookie cutter, cut out about 7 circles. Place a scant teaspoon of the cooked apples in the middle of the round. Using very cold water and your fingers, wet all the way around the pie, fold it over and crimp edges with the fork and make a slit in the top. Put a little oil in a skillet and let it get hot first, then place the little pies in the skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Take them out of the oil when they are cooked and place on a wire rack with paper towels on them so that will take off the excess oil. Whisk icing ingredients together until smooth and drizzle over warm pies. Serve.
