Hot Dog Mummies image

I made this meal for my grandma when I was a kid and it's super simple and a great idea for kids to make to start to learn how to cook!

Provided by DessertQueen123

Categories     Appetizers and Snacks     Wraps and Rolls

Time 25m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 3

8 hot dogs
1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls (such as Pillsbury® Grands! Big and Flaky)
1 teaspoon yellow mustard, or as needed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Place hot dogs in a saucepan and cover with water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until warmed through, about 5 minutes. Drain.
  • Roll crescent dough onto a work surface; tear into 8 pieces. Roll 1 piece dough around each hot dog, creating the look of a mummy. Place dots of mustard on the top of each for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Arrange hot dogs on a baking sheet.

Categories     Other Appetizers

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 5

12 oz package andouille chicken sausage, or favorite cooked sausage
8 oz package refrigerated crescent rolls
2 Tbsp unsalted
1/4 c pepper jack cheese, shredded
1 Tbsp jalapeno, minced

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set aside. Cut each chicken sausage in half lengthwise. Cut each sausage piece in half again, width wise.
  • 2. Set aside. Remove crescent roll dough from package. It should look like a large square.
  • 3. rush the square with butter and sprinkle with pepper jack cheese and jalapeño and press down into dough.
  • 4. Cut dough in ¼ inch wide strips. Starting with one piece of sausage, take half a strip and wrap it around the pointed end of the sausage and pinch at the top to seal.
  • 5. Take a full strip and wrap the bottom half of the sausage, ensuring you leave a thumb's width of sausage unwrapped. Place mummy on baking sheet and repeat the process with remaining sausage until mummies are assembled.
  • 6. Bake mummies for 15 minutes or until golden on the outside. For eyes use a chop stick to poke holes into the sausage, then fill holes with a piece of minced jalapeño.

OR How about cutting the meat in half and making twice as many of them for your little girls birthday party and have as little baby doll in a blanket appetizers??? OR How about making as little babies in a blanket and having them at your next baby shower??? You can just use hot dogs or sausage plain and wrap them up in the blanket of dough and bake, then dip in your favorite dippers of mustard, sweet and sour sauce, ketchup etc. The options are endless! As you can see in a couple of the pictures, I leave a space when wrapping for the "face" to show.

Time 30m

Yield 8 mummies or 16 babies

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 (10 ounce) rolls refrigerated pizza dough or 2 (10 ounce) refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
1 lb kielbasa (If making babies, cut in 16 pieces) or 8 cooked links sausage (If making babies, cut in 16 pieces)
nonstick cooking spray
1 cup part-skim mozzarella cheese, grated (optional)
1/4 cup low-fat parmesan cheese (optional)

  • Preheat oven to 300°F.
  • Open pkg. of pizza dough or crescent rolls.
  • (If making pizza filled gather ingredients, grate cheese, and dice vegetables).

  • Serve with warm pizza sauce for dip, or dip in mustard, sweet and sour sauce or ketchup, depending on what you like!.

Keep wrapping in a crisscross pattern until covered. Tuck the end underneath the mummy dog (so that it doesn't unravel during baking). Repeat with all hotdogs. Lay them on on baking sheet lined with parchment paper or baking mat.

  • First, preheat the oven to 400°F with the rack in the middle position. Line a baking tray with foil or parchment, and place a wire rack on top. Grease the rack with melted ghee.
  • Shred the white-fleshed sweet potato with a spiralizer and place in a large bowl. (A spiralizer’s your best bet for this recipe; it’s hard to get sufficiently long strands of sweet potato with a julienne peeler or by feeding it through your food processor.)
  • Grab a chopped hot dog and wrap some strands of sweet potato around it. Try to cover your half-wiener from end to end, but don’t go for a super thick layer of sweet potato or else the “bandages” won’t crisp up properly in the oven.
