Steps:
- Preheat oven to 300°F and grease an 8x8 baking pan.
- Combine unsweetened chocolate and butter in a medium saucepan and melt over medium low heat, stirring constantly until pieces are almost melted.
- Remove from the heat and stir until smooth.
- In a large bowl using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat eggs until light yellow in color--about 5 minutes.
- Add sugar and blend on low until thoroughly combined.
- Add vanilla and melted chocolate to the egg sugar mixture.
- Blend on low until smooth.
- Add the flour and mix thoroughly.
- Pour batter into greased pan.
- Smooth surface with a spatula, and sprinkle uniformly with chocolate chips.
- Bake on center rack of oven for 45-55 minutes.
- The batter should be set and a toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
- Do not overbake.
- Cool to room temperature.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour.
- Cut and serve chilled.

Steps:
- Mix pecan halves with 1 tablespoon of dark Karo syrup and set aside.
- Beat shortening with brown sugar until creamy. Add molasses, 2 tablespoons dark Karo syrup, and pecan pieces, blend. Beat in egg yolks and vanilla. Measure flour, add baking powder, baking soda, and salt. To batter slowly mix in dry ingredients until all ingredients are blended well.
- Place in a 8"x 8" greased baking pan. Top batter with arranged pecan halves that have been mixed with the dark Karo syrup.
- Place baking pan in a preheated oven at 350 for 25 - 30 minutes. (if glass baking dish is used bake at 325 for 25 - 30 minutes)
- Yield: 16 servings

- Mix the brownies according to the back of the box. Cook for HALF OF THE TIME that the box says to cook it. So, if it says to cook it for 30 minutes, cook it for 15 for example.
- Combine the sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, & butter in a saucepot and cook over medium heat, stirring, until everything is melted and combined. Whisk in the eggs, one at a time - stirring well after each addition, until all 4 eggs are added. Cook on medium heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is lightly browned and thick. Stir in the chopped pecans and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Remove the brownies from the oven and let cool slightly. Pour the warm pecan pie topping on top of the brownies and spread with a heat proof spatula to evenly coat. Put the brownies back in the oven (same temperature) and cook for an additional 25-30 minutes.
