1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
3 well beaten eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup sour cream
5 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon lemon extract

Steps:

  • Cream shortening and 2 cups sugar.
  • Add eggs, vanilla, sour cream, lemon juice and lemon extract.
  • Mix well.
  • In separate bowl, mix flour with baking powder, salt and baking soda.
  • Add to creamed mixture.
  • Drop from spoon onto greased cookie sheet.
  • Grease bottom of small glass, dip into sugar and gently press cookie flat.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, room temperature
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups old-fashioned oatmeal
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup grated coconut

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and both the brown and granulated sugar. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat well. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Stir in the dry mixture to the butter mixture. Then add the oatmeal, pecans and coconut.
  • Using an ice cream scooper, drop some of the dough on an ungreased baking sheet 2 inches apart. Bake until the cookies turn a light brown, about 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with the remaining dough.

½ cup shortening, at room temperature
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup sour cream, at room temperature
¼ cup water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease baking sheets.
  • Beat shortening and sugar with an electric mixer in a large bowl until smooth. Beat 1 egg into the shortening mixture until completely blended. Add the second egg and vanilla to shortening mixture; beat to combine.
  • Stir flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg together in a bowl; beat into the shortening mixture in small amounts, alternately with the sour cream. Blend water into the dough.
  • Drop dough by tablespoonful onto prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the edges are golden, 6 to 7 minutes. Cool cookies on the baking sheets for 1 minute before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

1 cup sugar
1 large egg, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup buttermilk
FROSTING:
3 tablespoons butter, softened
3-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/4 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition. , Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto greased baking sheets. 1 cup sour cream

1 ½ cups chopped black walnuts
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and shortening. Add the eggs and vanilla; mix well. Stir in the sour cream. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, stir in the chopped black walnuts.
  • Drop cookies by teaspoonful onto a cookie sheet. In a small saucer, stir together the cinnamon and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Grease the bottom of a drinking glass and dip it into the cinnamon sugar mixture. Press down on each cookie to flatten slightly. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes. 1 cup shortening (I use butter flavored)
2 eggs
5 cups flour, divided
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream sugar, shortening and eggs.
  • Add 1 cup flour, soda, salt, and baking powder.
  • Combine milk and vanilla.
  • Add to creamed mixture alternately with remaining 4 cups flour.
  • Cover and chill at least 1 hour.
  • Roll onto lightly floured surface 1/4 inch thick.
  • Cut with desired shapes.
  • Bake on ungreased cookies sheets at 400°F for 8-10 minutes or until edges just begin to turn light golden brown.

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sour cream
5 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 ½ cups chopped black walnuts
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease baking sheets.
  • Cream the shortening with 2 cups of the white sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, vanilla and sour cream; mixing well.
  • Stir in the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda into the shortening mixture to make a stiff dough. Add the chopped black walnuts.
  • Drop teaspoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets. Mix the 3 tablespoons with the ground cinnamon. Grease the bottom of a small glass. Dip it into the cinnamon-sugar mixture and gently press the cookies to flatten the balls of dough slightly.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 10 to 15 minutes or until centers are done.

  • In a heavy sauce pan, bring sugar and corn syrup to a rolling boil, over medium heat. Remove from heat and stir in the peanut butter. Pour the sugar mixture evenly over the cereal and peanuts. Let cool and cut into squares.

4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup butter, softened
1-3/4 cups sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
4 large egg yolks
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons hot water
1 cup sour cream
Optional toppings: sugar or colored sugar and walnut halves

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder and nutmeg. In another bowl, cream butter, sugar and salt until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolks and eggs. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add sour cream and dissolved baking soda to creamed mixture. Gradually beat in flour mixture (dough will be sticky). Refrigerate, covered, overnight., Preheat oven to 350°. Working with one-third of the batch at a time, roll dough on a well-floured surface to 1/4-in. thickness. (Cover and refrigerate remaining dough until ready to roll.) Cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. round or other shaped cookie cutter. Place 1 in. apart on greased baking sheets. If desired, sprinkle tops with sugar and top with walnuts., Bake 8-10 minutes or until cookies are set but not browned. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.
