Classic sauce for barbecues . Perfect for pork, chicken, lamb and turkey. You can keep it in your fridge for several months. The taste just gets better.

2 medium onions, finely chopped
2 1/2 cups tomato juice
2 cups ketchup
1 cup HP steak sauce
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup black currant jelly
1/2 cup molasses or 1/2 cup dark sugar syrup
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
4 teaspoons liquid smoke
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 pinch cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Broil the onion softly in a large non-stick skillet.
  • Don't let the onion get brown.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer for about 15 minutes.
  • Mix the sauce smooth in a food processor. Store in a sealed container in the fridge.

The secret is in the sauce. This recipe is posted on another web site and I made some minor adjustments for personal taste. Use this sauce for Recipe #98940.

2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1/2 cup prepared yellow mustard
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoons liquid smoke
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons canola oil

Steps:

  • Combine all the ingredients except for oil.
  • Bring to a low boil, stirring often.
  • Using a splatter screen, reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat and whisk in oil until blended.
  • Store in a sealed container in refrigerator.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/3 cup finely chopped onion
3 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 cup ketchup
1/3 cup white or cider vinegar
3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon yellow mustard

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, saute onion in butter until tender. Stir in the mustard, salt and cayenne pepper; cook 1 minute longer., Stir in the ketchup, vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until desired consistency, 10-15 minutes. Cool., Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 1 month. Use as a basting sauce for grilled meats.
