STUFFED FRENCH LOAF

Stuffed French Loaf image

SOURCE : THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS - BOOK TWO. We make this every Christmas and new years. The vegetarian options are my creation and not in the book. I have never timed how long this actually takes, so the times mentioned are estimates.

Provided by Chef Shadows

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 1h

Yield 8-16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 loaf French bread
8 ounces spicy bulk sausage
1/3 cup chopped onion
1 garlic clove, Finely Minced
1 egg
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, divided
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
3/4 cup extra-sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1/4 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
2 veggie burgers, crumbled (I use Garden Burgers) (optional)
4 ounces mushroom pieces (optional)
1 tablespoon pecans, chopped (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Slice the bread in half lengthwise and slightly hollow out each half, leaving a 1/2-inch thick layer of bread.
  • Place crumbs in container of blender or food processor and process 15 to 20 seconds or until fine.
  • Cook sausage, onion, and garlic in skillet over medium heat until meat is browned; drain.
  • In a large bowl, combine bread crumbs, meat mixture, egg, 1 tsp mustard, and parsley; set aside.
  • Using a blender or food processor, process the cheeses, olive oil, 2 tsps mustard, and pepper until mixture forms a paste, about 1 minute.
  • Spread cheese mixture evenly over the inside of each bread half.
  • Spoon meat mixture into the cavity of each bread half.
  • Place bread halves together.
  • Wrap loaf in foil. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until heated through.
  • Cut into 1-inch thick slices.
  • • For the vegetarian option:.
  • Cook the Garden Burger, pecans and mushrooms with the onion and garlic.
  • Follow the rest of the recipe from that point.

MEAT STUFFED FRENCH LOAVES

These fun sandwiches are great to make ahead and keep in the freezer for a fast meal, or to make hors d'oeuvres for an impromptu get together.

Provided by Geema

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 40m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 loaf fat long French bread
4 ounces Italian sausage, skin removed
4 ounces ground turkey or 4 ounces ground beef
1 small onion
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/4 cup chopped parsley

1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese
2 tablespoons butter
1 clove garlic, crushed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  • In a food processor, make soft crumbs out of the bread that was removed from the middle of the loaf.
  • Brown the sausage and ground meat in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add onion, and continue to cook until soft.
  • In a bowl, combine the cooked meat and onion, the bread crumbs, grated cheese, the egg, mustard, parsley, fennel, basil, salt and pepper and pepper to taste.
  • With a long handled wooden spoon, stuff the hollowed out French bread with the stuffing mixture.
  • Place the ends of the bread back in place and secure with small skewers.

Provided by Emeril Lagasse

Categories     main-dish

Time 2h7m

Yield 12 to 16 servings

Number Of Ingredients 19

2 (15-inch-long) French baguettes
1 pound bulk breakfast sausage
2 tablespoons chopped jalapenos
1 cup chopped green bell peppers
1/4 cup chopped green onions (green and white parts)
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
8 ounces sour cream
8 ounces grated sharp Cheddar
1 teaspoon Emeril's Original Essence, recipe follows
Chopped fresh parsley leaves, for garnish
Corn or tortilla chips, for dipping, optional
2 1/2 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried thyme

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Using a serrated knife, trim the upper quarter off the length of the top of each loaf. Hollow out the center of the loaves, leaving a 1/2-inch-thick shell. Set aside.
  • Brown the sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, stirring to break up any clumps. Add the jalapenos, bell peppers, and green onions. Cook, stirring, until the vegetables are soft, 3 to 4 minutes. Add the cream cheese, sour cream, and Cheddar and stir until completely melted, about 2 minutes. Add the Essence and remove from the heat.
  • Fill the hollowed-out bread loaves with equal amounts of the sausage-cheese mixture and wrap each loaf in aluminum foil. Place the loaves on a baking sheet and bake for 1 hour. Remove from the oven, unwrap, and sprinkle with parsley.

CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE-STUFFED FRENCH TOAST

Chocolate Cheesecake-Stuffed French Toast image

Provided by Giada De Laurentiis

Categories     main-dish

Time 1h10m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 Pullman loaf, crust removed
1/2 cup cream cheese, at room temperature
1/4 cup chocolate-hazelnut spread
3 eggs, beaten
1 cup whole milk
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoon unsalted butter
6 ounces raspberries, fresh or frozen
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1/4 cup orange juice (1 orange)
Powdered sugar, for dusting

Steps:

  • For the French toast: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Make an incision in the center of the Pullman loaf, as if you were slicing the loaf in half but taking care not to cut through the ends or the back side of the loaf. Stick your hand inside the incision and press lightly on the bread to make a pocket for stuffing.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the cream cheese and chocolate-hazelnut spread with a rubber spatula until smooth. Spoon the mixture into a resealable plastic bag; snip off a corner from the bag. Pipe the mixture into the pocket and close the seam slightly around it.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla and salt. Soak the stuffed loaf in the egg mixture, rotating it, until all the custard is absorbed, about 12 minutes.
  • Melt the butter over medium heat in a large oven-safe nonstick skillet. Gently remove the French toast from the custard pan and place in the hot skillet; cook until golden brown on all sides except the side with the pocket, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer the skillet to oven and bake until firm and an inserted metal skewer comes out dry, about 15 minutes.
  • For the raspberry compote: Meanwhile, place the raspberries, granulated sugar and orange juice in a small bowl. Partially mash the fruit with the back of a fork. Set aside to macerate.
  • Remove the French toast from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before cutting into slices. Serve drizzled with raspberry compote and dusted with powdered sugar.

This is sooo good, artery clogging though. This originally called for raw bacon, but it took forever to cook, this came from some recipe site on the 'net. The instructions may sound confusing, and while making it you will be thinking 'what tha'. The outcome will be worth it, at least I hope you think so. When baked you are to slice them into individual sandwhiches. Bake time can differ due to the type of dough used

Provided by lets.eat

Categories     Lunch/Snacks
