Time 45m

Yield 8 apples

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 small red apples, such as Red Delicious
3 cups sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
Soft gel red food coloring
One .125-ounce bottle cinnamon candy flavoring oil
Soft gel blue food coloring
1 cup mini marshmallows

Steps:

  • Lay a large piece of parchment paper on a work surface. Insert a wooden stick into each apple at the stem end.
  • Combine the sugar, corn syrup and 1 cup water in a saucepan fitted with a candy thermometer. Bring to a boil and cook until it registers 302 degrees F. Remove from the heat and allow the bubbles to subside, about 2 minutes. Add 1 drop of soft gel red food coloring and the entire bottle of cinnamon candy flavoring oil, then stir well. Again, allow the bubbles to subside.
  • Hold an apple by the stick and tilt the pan so the candy pools to one side. Dip the apple and swirl to fully coat, then transfer to the parchment. Repeat with 3 more apples. Stir in enough soft gel blue food coloring to the remaining candy to create a deep purple. Dip the remaining apples in the same manner. Let the apples stand until the candy is hardened, about 5 minutes.
  • For the marshmallow web, microwave the mini marshmallows in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds at 100 percent power. Stir until the marshmallows lose their shape. Let cool slightly, then pick up some of the marshmallow between your thumb and forefinger. Use your other thumb and forefinger to stretch the marshmallow into strands, and quickly wrap the stretchy strands around the apples. Continue with the remaining marshmallows and apples.

APPLE SPIDER WEB POPS

Fresh fruit awaits you in these chocolate-dipped webbed treats. Thick slices of tart apple stand in for candy. Wrap them in cellophane bags, tie with a decorative bow and feel semi-wholesome about passing them out.

Time 50m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 large Granny Smith apples, stemmed
4 ounces chopped bittersweet chocolate
2 teaspoons coconut oil
4 ounces chopped white chocolate

Steps:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment or a silicon baking mat.
  • Cut the apples lengthwise (stem to bottom) into 4 thick slices each. Remove any visible seeds and keep the core intact. The end slices will be rounded; cut a thin slice off so they lay flat. Poke a small hole in the bottom of each slice with a wooden ice-pop stick and push halfway into the apple.
  • Combine the bittersweet chocolate and 1 teaspoon of the coconut oil in a medium microwave-safe bowl and microwave at 50 percent power for 30-second increments, stirring in between, until melted and smooth. Add the white chocolate and remaining 1 teaspoon coconut oil to another medium microwave-safe bowl and microwave at 50 percent power for 30-second increments, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
  • Dip half of the apple slices completely in the bittersweet chocolate, letting the excess drip back into the bowl, and place on the prepared baking sheet. Dip the remaining apple slices in the white chocolate. Let sit at room temperature so the chocolate thickens a bit, 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Transfer the leftover dark and white chocolate to 2 separate small resealable plastic bags and snip a small corner off each bag. Pipe 3 to 4 dark chocolate concentric circles on the white chocolate-dipped apples and visa-versa. Drag a toothpick through the circles, starting the center and working your way out to create a spider web design. Refrigerate until hardened, 15 to 20 minutes.

Time 55m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 cup water
1 cup cinnamon candies (recommended: Red Hots)
6 small red apples
Cream Cheese Topping, recipe follows
Freshly parsley or mint leaves, for garnish
2 ounces cream cheese
1 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon mayonnaise

Steps:

  • In a medium nonstick pan, dissolve the cinnamon candies in water over low heat. Peel, core and cut the apples in 1/2 lengthwise. Once the candy has dissolved arrange the apples, flat side down, in the pan. Cook on low to medium heat until the apples are tender; turning often, about for about 45 minutes. The apples should be the color of the candy. When ready transfer to a serving platter and let cool.
  • Once apples have cooled dollop 1 teaspoon of the Cream Cheese Topping on each apple. Garnish with a small piece of fresh parsley or a fresh mint leaf. Refrigerate until serving.
  • Add all the ingredients to a small bowl and thoroughly combine with a hand-held mixer. Topping should be stiff. Refrigerate until ready to use.

HALLOWEEN SPIDERWEB APPLES

Halloween Spiderweb Apples image

Sort of a cross between a marshmallow treat and a candy apple. Disposable chopsticks make good sticks!

Provided by HollyLQuinn

Categories     Candy

Time 20m

Yield 4 candy apples

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 apples
8 large marshmallows
1/2 tablespoon butter or 1/2 tablespoon margarine
1/2 cup crispy rice cereal
1 tablespoon halloween candy sprinkles (optional)
4 wooden sticks

Steps:

  • Stick a wooden stick into each apple.
  • In a medium sized microwave-safe bowl, put marshmallows and butter, and heat on HIGH in the microwave for 15 seconds. Stir. Heat for another 10 seconds and stir. Marshmallows should be smooth and pourable at this point, if not, heat in 10 second intervals until ready.
  • While still very hot, dip each apple one at a time into the marshmallow (you may need to return to microwave for a few seconds if marshmallow starts to get stiff). Lightly roll each in crispy rice, and set on a wax paper-covered cookie sheet 1-2" apart.
  • Reheat any leftover marshmallows (you may need to add one or two at this point). With a spoon, drizzle remaining marshmallow over apples, giving them a "spiderweb" look. While still hot, put sprinkles on the coating, if desired.
  • Allow to cool completely before serving. These are very sticky, but tasty!

MARSHMALLOW APPLE CRISP

Marshmallow Apple Crisp image

This may sound a bit strange, but it is really a rich and delicious recipe. The topping forms a soft golden brown crust that is somewhat cookie-like. It compliments the tartness of the apples very well. Enjoy!

HALLOWEEN CANDY-COATED APPLES

Halloween Candy-Coated Apples image

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 1h

Yield 6 apples

Number Of Ingredients 0

Steps:

  • Insert a lollipop stick or dowel into the top of 6 apples. Microwave 3 cups white candy melts in 30-second intervals, stirring, until melted. Dip each apple into the white candy and let the excess drip off. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet; let set before decorating unless otherwise directed.
  • Mummy: Attach 2 candy eyeballs to a white candy-coated apple using more candy melts. Microwave 2 marshmallows until puffed, 10 to 15 seconds. Stir until smooth; let cool slightly. Using a spoon, scoop up the marshmallow (it will stretch into a thread) and wrap it around the apple.
  • Spiderweb: Microwave black candy melts until melted; transfer to a small resealable plastic bag. Snip a corner. While a white candy-coated apple is still wet, pipe a spiral onto one side with the melted black candy. Use a skewer to gently drag lines out from the center to create a web pattern. Let set.
  • Cat: Snip a marshmallow in half diagonally, then trim to make 2 triangles. Press the cut sides in black sanding sugar. Attach to a white candy-coated apple using more candy melts, then attach 2 green candies for eyes. Pipe lines with black icing.
  • Skeleton: Roll mini marshmallows between your thumb and index finger to make them into a bone shape. Attach the marshmallows to a white candy-coated apple in a hand formation using more candy melts.
  • Werewolf: Drag a skewer across a white candy-coated apple in 3 spots to look like scratches. Fill the scratches with red gel icing.
  • Ghost: Make a puddle of melted white candy melts on parchment; set a white candy-coated apple on the puddle while still wet. Let set, then pipe eyes and a mouth with black gel icing.

Time 1h35m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 small Granny Smith apples
3 cups sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon blue gel food coloring
1 teaspoon red gel food coloring

Steps:

  • Wash and dry the apples and remove the stems. Insert a wooden twig into each apple about halfway through. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Add the sugar, corn syrup, 1/2 teaspoon of the blue food coloring, 1/2 teaspoon of the red food coloring and 1 cup water to a small saucepot and stir together. Attach a candy thermometer to the pot and bring the mixture to a boil. (Do not stir once the sugar starts to boil.) Boil until the mixture reaches 295 degrees F, 15 to 20 minutes. Immediately remove from the heat and add the remaining 1/2 teaspoon blue food coloring and 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring, using a wooden skewer to swirl a figure eight in the pot and being careful not to blend.
  • Immediately dip the apples into the mixture, carefully tilting the pot as necessary to coat. Allow any excess coating to drip back into the pot, then place the apples on the parchment-lined baking sheet to set, about 1 hour.
