THE PERFECT MARGARITA



The Perfect Margarita image

Mastering the margarita requires a certain amount of practice, but once you dial-in your perfect ratio, it's a really easy cocktail to replicate. The classic recipe is 3 parts tequila, 2 parts triple sec, and 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice, and you should probably start off pretty close to that, but my personal favorite proportions are 4-3-2.

1 lime wedge
1 pinch coarse sea salt to taste
1 large ice cube
ice
2 fluid ounces white tequila
1 ½ fluid ounces triple sec
1 fluid ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
1 slice lime

Steps:

  • Moisten the rim of a glass with a lime wedge. Sprinkle salt onto a plate. Lightly dip the moistened rim into the salt. Place a large ice cube in the glass and freeze the prepared glass until ready to serve.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker with fresh ice. Add tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Cover and shake vigorously until outside of the shaker has frosted. Strain into the prepared glass and garnish with a slice of lime.

2oz fresh lime juice - 2 hand squeezed limes
1oz Tequila - brand of choice
1oz Cointreau
splash of honey water - added sweetness per taste
sea salt - garnish rim of glass
lime slice - garnish

Steps:

  • Squeeze fresh limes into a bowl.
  • Pour two shot glasses of fresh squeezed lime juice in shaker.
  • Add one shot glass of Cointreau to shaker.
  • Add one shot glass of Tequila.
  • Fill half a shot glass with water, then squeeze raw honey into the shot glass.
  • Mix well.
  • Slowly pour your honey water into your shaker until you reach desired sweetness. Start with half a shot glass before adding more.
  • Shake your margarita mix.
  • Rub sliced lime around rim of glass.
  • Dip glass into plate or bowl of sea salt.
  • Pour margarita over crushed ice.

These Mason Jar Margaritas from The Whole Smiths are the perfect treat to take along for any occasion. While they may not be technically paleo, they're pretty clean for a delicious cocktail.

1 3/4 cups lime juice
2 1/2 cups juice (mango, guava, peach, etc.)
2 3/4 cups tequila blanco
1 1/3 cups Gran Marnier
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Kosher or margarita salt for rims
Thinly sliced jalapeños to garnish if you're making the guava margaritas

Steps:

  • Add the lime juice, fruit juice of choice, tequila and Gran Marnier and optional cayenne to a 1/2 gallon mason jar and stir to combine. Add any additional ingredients you may like to infuse such as basil.
  • Cover with the lid and refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours prior to serving.
  • To serve, wet the rims of a glass with a bit of lime juice and dip into the salt to rim the glass. Add the ice to your cup after you have salted the rims and pour margarita into the glass.

1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 egg white (1 Tbsp.)
1/2 ounce triple sec (1 Tbsp.)
to taste lime slice

Steps:

  • In blender container, combine the crushed ice, tequila, lime juice, powdered sugar, egg white and Triple Sec. Cover and blend until very frothy.
  • Transfer to pitcher; garnish with lime slices.
  • Serve in salt-rimmed cocktail glasses.
  • To prepare glasses: Rub the rim of each cocktail glass with a little lime juice. Invert glass in a shallow dish of salt; shake off excess salt.
