GRILLED ASIAN GINGER PORK CHOPS



Grilled Asian Ginger Pork Chops image

Asian ingredients give these grilled chops lots of unique flavour. They can also be put in the oven and broiled.

½ cup orange juice
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger root
2 tablespoons grated orange zest
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon garlic chile paste
½ teaspoon salt
6 pork loin chops, 1/2 inch thick

Steps:

  • In a shallow container, mix together orange juice, soy sauce, ginger, orange zest, garlic, chile paste, and salt. Add pork chops, and turn to coat evenly. Cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight. Turn the pork chops in the marinade occasionally.
  • Preheat grill for high heat, and lightly oil grate.
  • Grill pork chops for 5 to 6 minutes per side, or to desired doneness.

A pleasant combination of honey, soy sauce and ginger glazes these tender pork chops and makes them seem special. Serve with buttered green beans and instant mashed potatoes as shown in the photo above right. Or complete the meal with peas and scalloped potatoes from a boxed mix.

2 bone-in pork loin chops (3/4 inch thick)
1 teaspoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 cup honey
1 garlic clove, minced
3/4 tablespoon grated fresh gingerroot
1 tablespoon sliced green onion

Steps:

  • Broil pork chops 4-5 in. from the heat for 4-5 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 145°. Let meat stand for 5 minutes before serving., Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine cornstarch and soy sauce until smooth. stir in the honey, garlic and ginger. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 1 minute or until thickened. Drizzle over the pork chops. Sprinkle with green onion.

4 pork chops, double cut, center cut, bone in
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 teaspoons minced ginger
1 teaspoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup white wine
1 cup sliced (1/4-inch) yellow onions
2 cups cored and sliced (1/4-inch) Granny Smith apples
1/2 cup raisins
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • In a resealable plastic bag, add the chops, apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, ginger, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Marinate for 30 minutes
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a large saute pan heat 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil to almost smoking, then add pork chops, shaking off excess marinade. Brown on both sides, then place on a sheet pan and put in the oven for 20 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 135 degrees F.
  • In the same saute pan deglaze with wine then add onions, apples and raisins and cook until apples are soft and onions are translucent. Add butter salt and pepper, to taste, and keep warm.
  • Remove chops from oven and add to the apple mixture. Serve hot.

4 pork loin chops
1/2 teaspoon ginger, ground
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
3/4 cup ginger ale
1/4 cup gingerroot, fresh minced
1/4 cup candied ginger, slivered crystallized
1/4 cup walnuts, chopped
1/4 cup raisins, Golden Seedless
1/2 cup whipping cream, Heavy

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Buy Chops 1" thick.
  • Coarsely chop the walnuts.
  • Sprinkle ground ginger all over the pork chops.
  • Melt the butter in a large skillet, and brown the chops over medium-high heat, 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Transfer the chops to an oven-proof baking dish.
  • Add the ginger ale, fresh ginger, and crystallized ginger to the skillet, and cook over high heat for 2-3 minutes.
  • Pour this over the chops, put it in the oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the walnuts and raisins over the chops and bake an additional 15 minutes.
  • Transfer the chops to a serving platter and keep warm.
  • Add the cream to the baking pan and place it over high heat.
  • Cook, scraping up the brown bits, until the sauce is reduced and thickened, about 2 minutes.
  • Pour over the chops and serve immediately.
  • NOTE: Since the crystallized ginger is rather expensive, look for it in an Asian food store, where it should be less than a supermarket.

1 medium onion, chopped
4 teaspoons canola oil, divided
1 tablespoon minced fresh gingerroot
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 bone-in pork loin chops (6 ounces each)
1/2 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 cups hot cooked rice

Steps:

  • In a small skillet over medium-low heat, cook onion in 2 teaspoons oil until golden brown and very tender, about 10 minutes. Add ginger; cook and stir 2 minutes longer., Meanwhile, combine the chili powder, salt, pepper and cinnamon; rub over both sides of pork chops. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown chops in remaining oil for 2-3 minutes on each side., Add the broth, syrup and onion mixture. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes or until meat is tender. Remove chops and keep warm. , Bring broth mixture to a boil; cook, uncovered, until liquid is thickened and reduced to 1/2 cup. 2 large onions, sliced
1/4 c butter, divided
5 1" thick pork chops
2 Tbsp firmly packed brown sugar
1 Tbsp chili sauce or tomato puree
1 Tbsp all purpose flour
1 c ginger ale
salt & pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. In a skillet, saute onions in 1/8 cup of butter over medium heat until golden brown. Remove onions and place in a 2 qt. oblong baking dish. In the same skillet, brown chops in remaining 1/8 cup butter over medium heat.
  • 2. Remove chops and place on top on onions. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Blend chili sauce and flour together in a small bowl; add ginger ale, mix and pour over chops. Sprinkle generously with salt & pepper, cook in preheated 350^ oven for 1 hour or until chops are tender.

4 thick cut pork chops
1 cup soy sauce
8 slices fresh ginger root
4 cloves garlic, sliced
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 cup dried bread crumbs
2 tablespoons sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Place pork chops, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and black pepper into a large, resealable, plastic bag. Shake the bag gently to combine everything, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. These are excellent done in the morning, and left to sit all day.
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a shallow dish, combine bread crumbs and sesame seeds. Remove chops from marinade, making sure there are no ginger slices clinging to the meat, and lay them in the crumb mixture to coat. If you like, place pieces of garlic from the marinade on the chops. Place chops on a rack or baking sheet.
  • Bake for approximately 45 minutes, or until done
