GRILLED MARINATED SIRLOIN FLAP STEAKS

Grilled Marinated Sirloin Flap Steaks image

We make this super-easy, super-tasty dish all year long. The bold combination of soy sauce, balsamic, and maple syrup works its magic on the meat quickly, so it only needs to marinate for as long as it takes to get your grill fired up. In the fall and winter, we pair this steak with maple-sweetened butternut squash. Come summer, it's a natural with a tomato salad and corn on the cob.

MAPLE MARINADE

Maple Marinade image

Provided by Michelle

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 tbsp red wine vinegar
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp maple syrup (birch syrup is also delicious in this)
2 cloves minced garlic
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4-1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • Mix ingredients together. Feel free to double, triple, or quadruple amounts, depending on how much steak you're marinating. (For a 1.5 pound steak, I double this marinade.)
  • Rub steak with your favorite rub. (I like to use Jane's Crazy Mixed-up Salt.)
  • Marinade steak for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 400° F.
  • Heat cast iron pan till nice and hot.
  • Add bacon grease or another fat, such as butter, to your hot pan.
  • Sear steak for 1-2 minutes on each side, using tongs to turn your steak, and leaving steak for the full time on each side, not flipping back and forth.
  • Place steak, in your cast iron pan, directly into the oven for roughly 10-15 minutes.

Categories     DINNER

Time 2h28m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (2 lb) flat iron steak
2 ½ tbsps olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp chopped fresh parsley
¼ tsp chopped fresh rosemary
½ tsp chopped fresh chives
¼ c Cabernet Sauvignon
½ tsp salt
¾ tsp ground black pepper
¼ tsp dry mustard powder

Steps:

  • Mix olive oil, Cabernet, mustard powder, garlic, chives, parsley, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Put the steak inside of a large, resealable bag and pour the marinade mixture over the bag. Before sealing, press on the bag to remove as much air as possible. Place bag in the refrigerator to marinate for 2-3 hours.
  • Heat a nonstick skillet on medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side. (Medium-rare is recommended for the best taste.) If you desire a higher level of doneness, leave slightly longer and check frequently. Move steaks to a plate and throw out the marinade. Allow steaks to sit for about five minutes before serving.
