If you are having trouble including these anti-inflammatory spices in your diet, here is an alternative to supplements. Actually quite tasty! I believe this tea is popular in Okinawa, Japan. Just remember turmeric stains. I make mine in an old mason jar, wrapped in an old tea towel! Turmeric is used for medicinal purposes in India.

½ teaspoon ground turmeric
½ teaspoon chopped fresh ginger
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon honey

Steps:

  • Bring water to a boil in a small saucepan; add turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain tea into a large glass; add honey and lemon wedge.

Steps:

  • Pour 3/4 cup boiling water over tea bags in a mug. Let steep 5 minutes, then remove tea bags. Stir in bourbon, lemon juice, and maple syrup. Garnish with lemon peel.

  • Tea can be steeped 5 days ahead. Cover and chill. Reheat before serving.

1 Lemon, Juiced
1 Mandarin Orange or ½ Large Orange, Juiced
2 tsp Honey or Sweetener of choice

Steps:

  • Add all the ingredients to a small sauce pan.
  • Heat the tea over medium high heat until it begins to simmer.
  • As soon as the mix begins to simmer, reduce heat to medium low and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Strain the solids out of the tea, using a small strainer.
  • Drink and Enjoy!

2 cups cake flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ cup shortening
⅔ cup packed brown sugar
1 cup real maple syrup
⅔ cup sour cream
2 eggs
⅓ cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 8 inch round cake layer pans.
  • Sift together into a bowl; cake flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Add the shortening, brown sugar, maple syrup, and 2/3 cup sour cream. Beat for 2 minutes with an electric mixer set at medium speed. Beat in the eggs and 1/3 cup sour cream and mix for another 2 minutes. Pour batter into prepared pans.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 to 35 minutes, or until cake springs back lightly when touched. Cool for 5 minutes, then remove from pans and continue cooling.

  • 1. In a small, heavy saucepan, wilt the onion, ginger, and garlic in olive oil over low heat for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring once or twice.
  • 2. Add the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 10 minutes to thicken sauce, stirring occasionally. Strain and finely mince the onion, ginger, and garlic; return to the sauce. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Refrigerate, covered, until needed.
