MAPLE-ORANGE PEAR CRISP
In fall, my family loves to kick back after dinner and dig into big bowls of this spiced crisp. It isn't too sweet, but still satisfies a sweet tooth. -Noreen McCormick, Cromwell, Connecticut

MAPLE APPLE OATMEAL CRISP
I found this recipe on the back of the Country Choice Organic Oven Toasted Oats container. I followed all of the directions except I used a 9X13 in baking pan and added 1/8 cup of ground flax meal for extra fiber. My kids couldn't tell the difference and LOVED it! A very yummy source of whold grain fiber. It states that you can substitute peaches or pears for the apples but the next time I am going to try comblining fruits.

- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Add the butter and using your fingers, a fork or a pastry blender mix it together and combine until the butter forms coarse crumbs. I usually take a full 2 to 3 minutes and do this with my fingers.
- Make a well in the center and add in buttermilk and vanilla extract. Mix with a large spoon until a dough forms and comes together – it will be sticky! Just make sure your hands are floured and so is your work surface. Pat the dough into a 1 1/2-inch thick square. Slice the square into 12 smaller squares. Brush each with some heavy cream, then place the scones on a baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Top with the glaze and oatmeal before serving.
- Whisk together the ingredients until smooth. If the mixture is too thin, whisk in more sugar 1/4 cup at a time. If it’s too thick, whisk in more syrup or half and half, 1 teaspoon at a time. Drizzle on scones!

- In a medium-sized bowl combine the flour, pecans, oats, and cubed butter. Work this mixture with your fingers by gently crushing the butter into smaller pieces. When this mixture is done it will look like fine gravel.
- In a separate large bowl combine the apples, spices, corn starch, and 1/2 cup of the maple syrup. Stir gently to coat all the apples. Lay them gently into your greased baking pan as evenly as possible.
- Add the remaining maple syrup to the flour topping and stir gently to combine. When the topping is evenly moistened crumble it over the apples in one even layer. Do not pat it down.
