INCREDIBLE MAPLE DONUT FROSTING RECIPE
Where are all donut lovers? They are my absolute favorite! I do not know if it is their fluffy texture or the amount of variety, but I have always loved them. I have gone through phases in regards to flavors. There was a time when I preferred donuts filled with custard, another with marmalade, but right now I am a fan of maple donuts. Is anyone else as obsessed as me?

- Step 2

BROWN SUGAR-MAPLE FROSTING
This makes a somewhat stiff frosting that tastes a bit like toffee and is perfect for covering fall desserts. From apple cakes to pumpkin cookies to cranberry-walnut cupcakes, this is my go-to frosting to capture the flavors of my favorite season. I like to top it with chopped walnuts and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Be warned, however, that it's extremely sweet, so it's best paired with low-sugar baked goods. A little goes a long way.

MAPLE BARS
I don't remember where I got this recipe but it is so good. I get asked to make these and they are always gone fast. You could sprinkle chopped nuts on top of the icing if you wanted. The icing would also be good on a cake.

- In the bowl of a stand mixer with a dough hook on mixer, add warm milk, granulated sugar and yeast. Mix to combine and let rest for 5 minutes until yeast is active and mixture is bubbly.
- Stir in mashed potatoes, melted butter, salt eggs and 2 cups of flour.
- Add remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time. Continue adding and mixing flour until dough forms in to a ball and dough is soft and just slightly sticky. You may not use all the flour.

- Remove dough from mixing bowl and place in a large greased bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit until dough doubles in size (1 1/2- 2 hours)
- Gently deflate dough and divide dough in half.
- Roll one half of dough into an 8 x 12" rectangle. Cut into 6 x 2" pieces using a pizza cutter or a large sharp knife.
- Place each rectangle on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave space between each piece so they have room to rise.
- Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise for 30 - 45 minutes.
- Heat at least 2 inches of oil in a large pot to 370 degrees.
- Carefully lift a maple bar off the parchment paper and lower into preheated oil. Add 2-3 bars at a time. (Do not overcrowd pot)
- Cook for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown.

- Combine powdered sugar, maple extract and milk in a bowl. Mix to combine.
- When bars are completely cooled, spread a layer of frosting on top of each bar. Let bars set until frosting has hardened (30 minutes)

- Combine 1/2 cup warm water (110 degrees Fahrenheit), 3/4 cup warm milk along with 1 tbsp sugar and 2 tsp yeast. Give it a quick whisk and wait till it gets foamy. About 10 minutes.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer add 5 1/2 cups of flour(spooned and leveled off with a knife) , 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup sugar, the frothy yeast mixture, and 5 large eggs. Using the hook attachment, mix everything together on medium-high speed.
- Place the donut dough in a greased bowl and cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Then let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size. ( I like to speed it up in the oven on the “proof” setting).
- After the dough rises punch it down, reshape it, and let it rise again until it becomes twice the size (about an hour),
