AUTHENTIC MANGONADA RECIPE

This Mangonada is a treat you definitely need in your life! The main ingredients are mangoes, some chamoy, mango nectar and a little lime. Mangonadas is such a quick and easy fun cold drink to throw together for parties, friends and family, or just a quiet afternoon at home. So delicious, easy, fresh, and fun!

16 oz frozen mangos
1 cup mango nectar or juice
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (About 1 large lime)
1 cup ice
chili lime seasoning
chamoy
1 fresh mango (cut into small chunks for topping)
Tamarindo candy straws ((aka Tarugos))

Steps:

  • Add the frozen mango, mango nectar, lime juice and ice in a blender.
  • Cover and puree on medium speed. Blend until smooth. About 1 minute.
  • On two small plates, add some chili lime powder to one and chamoy in the other. Grab your cup, dip the edge on the chamoy, then transfer to the chili lime powder plate.
  • Swirl some chamoy on the sides of the cup.
  • Pour some Mangonada mixture in the cup, top with fresh mango chunks and sprinkle with chili lime powder. Add more chamoy on top, optional.
  • Garnish each glass with a tamarind candy stick and a thick straw or a spoon. Enjoy immediately!

MANGO SORBET WITH LIME AND CHILI

3 large mangos, peeled and pitted and chopped into chunks
2 cups simple syrup, recipe follows
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
1 tablespoon chili powder, plus extra for garnish
Coarse salt
2 cups water
2 cups sugar

Steps:

  • If using, prepare the bowl of the ice cream maker according to manufacturer's directions.
  • Place the mango chunks in the food processor and puree until smooth. You should have about 3 cups of puree. Place the 3 cups of puree in a mixing bowl and stir in the simple syrup, lime juice, and chili powder. Pour the mixture into a shallow dish and place in the freezer. Freeze for at least 3 hours and up to overnight.
  • If using an ice cream maker, pour into maker and freeze according to manufacturers directions. Transfer the sorbet to a freezable container and freeze until firm, about 1 to 2 hours.
  • Serve cold, sprinkled with a little coarse salt and more chili powder, if desired.
  • In a small saucepan, dissolve the sugar in the water and bring to a boil. Boil 2 to 3 minutes, then remove from the heat and allow to cool completely.

1 lime
3 mangoes, peeled and cubed
½ cup water
1 tablespoon chile-lime seasoning (such as Tajin®)
2 teaspoons white sugar

Steps:

  • Cut lime into 6 slices. Cut each slice in half and place 2 slices in the bottom of each ice pop mold.
  • Set aside 1/3 cup of the diced mango. Place remaining mango in a blender. Add water, chile-lime seasoning, and sugar; blend until smooth. Stir in reserved mango.
  • Divide mixture between the molds. Freeze for 8 hours, or overnight. Run molds under cold water for 10 to 15 seconds to release pops.
