24 fluid ounces filtered water
1/2 cup freshly ground coffee
Pinch kosher salt

Steps:

Bring water to a boil in an electric kettle or in the microwave. Meanwhile, place the ground coffee and salt into a French press carafe. Pour the water over the grounds. Place the plunger in the carafe, but do not press down. Brew for 4 minutes, then slowly push the plunger down. Drink immediately or hold in a thermos for up to 3 hours.

This from-scratch coffee cake is quick to put together, and it easily serves a crowd. While it's delicious with peach or apricot pie filling, I like to make it with cherry or strawberry filling during the holidays.

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened
1-3/4 cups sugar
4 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 can (21 ounces) peach pie filling
ICING:
1-1/4 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
3 to 4 tablespoons milk

Steps:

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine the flour, salt and baking powder; add to creamed mixture and beat just until combined. , Spread 3-3/4 cups batter into a greased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Carefully spoon pie filling to within 1 in. of edges. Spoon remaining batter over filling. , Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean (cover loosely with foil if edges brown too quickly). Cool on a wire rack. , In a small bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, extract and enough milk to achieve desired consistency. Drizzle over coffee cake.

I based this homemade iced coffee on Starbucks® bottled Frappuccino®. My husband and I love it and our fridge is never without a pitcher of this super easy, frugal alternative to the expensive stuff. Even though winter's coming and we live in Pennsylvania's Lake Erie snowbelt, we drink this year-round as an alternative to soda and other soft drinks. This particular recipe lends itself to endless variations limited only by your imagination!

Ingredients

4 cups ice cubes, or as needed
8 cups strong freshly brewed coffee
1 cup white sugar, or to taste
4 cups whole milk

Steps:

Place 2 cups of ice cubes into a 2-quart pitcher; slowly pour coffee over ice and stir until ice is melted. Stir sugar into coffee and mix thoroughly until sugar is completely dissolved. Add milk, stirring just until combined. Stir in remaining 2 cups ice, adding more as needed; refrigerate until well chilled, about 30 minutes.
Stir before serving. Pour over ice in tall glasses or into recycled serving-size glass bottles or insulated tumblers.

Steps:

Make a 200ml cup of black coffee following pack instructions, then allow the coffee to go completely cold. Pour into a blender with the milk along with 2 or 3 handfuls of ice and maple syrup, if using, then blend until smooth and foamy.
Pour into a chilled tall glass and serve.
