Number Of Ingredients 5

90 g butter, melted
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons citric acid
1/2 cup water

Steps:

  • Dissolve the citric acid and the water in a microwave proof bowl.
  • Beat together sugar, eggs and citric acid in water.Stir in the melted butter. Mix well.
  • Cook on high, stirring well ever 30 seconds until mixture thickens (about 3minutes). Makes about 2 cups.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

1 large egg
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp white vinegar
1/2 c vegetable oil

Steps:

  • 1. In your blender add all ingredients except vegetable oil. Blend until combined.
  • 2. On high speed, drizzle oil by tablespoons into blender until you have used all of the oil. Blend 30 seconds longer.
  • 3. Spoon into container and refrigerate 30 minutes before using. Enjoy your super easy and economical spread!

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer (or using a hand mixer), beat ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  • Dip pastry brush in mixture and coat baking pan with a generous layer. Be sure to get all the way up the edges of the pan and into the corners/creases.

  • In a medium bowl, combine the shortening and oil. Using a spoon, whisk, or electric mixer, mix until well combined. The shortening may form small rice sized pieces. Don’t worry, they will break apart as the dry ingredients are incorporated.
  • Add the flour and cornstarch and continue to mix until the spread is glossy and silky smooth. Transfer the spread to a jelly jar or Mason jar with a tight fitting lid. I use a repurposed 14 ounce jelly jar or a Mason jar designed to hold 2 cups.
  • When you are ready to bake, use a pastry brush to apply a thin layer of this spread to all surfaces in your baking pan that the batter will come into contact with. If you’re baking a Bundt cake or tube pan, don’t forget to apply the spread to the center tube.
  • Bake your cake as directed. Remove the baked cake from the oven to cool. Allow the cake to cool for about ten minutes before tapping it lightly on the sides to gently loosen. Turn the cake out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
