- In a food processor, combine the cranberries and oranges. Coarsely chop until mixed; place in salad bowl.
- Add apples to the food processor and coarsely chop. Combine apples with cranberry and orange mixture.
- Add chopped nuts to fruit mixture, stir and sweeten to taste. Refrigerate and serve chilled.

- Dissolve orange gelatin mix in boiling water in a bowl. Stir juice from mandarin oranges, orange juice, and sugar-free orange drink into gelatin mixture. Melt enough ice cubes into the gelatin mixture so you have 1 1/2 cups total; refrigerate until thick and softly set, 6 to 8 hours.
- Stir mandarin oranges into gelatin and gently fold whipped topping into the dessert; refrigerate until fully set, about 2 more hours.

- Continue to stir until the sugar has dissolved completely, then remove from heat.
- Transfer to a jar or glass container and cool to room temperature.
- Store in a sealed jar or container in the fridge for 1-3 months.
- Yields ~1½ cups simple syrup.
