Based on a recipe from Guy Fieri�s book, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives: an All-American Road Trip�With Recipes! This celebrates Red Arrow Diner in Manchester, New Hampshire, a landmark diner established in 1922.

3 tablespoons butter
1 medium yellow onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, stemmed, seeded, and chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 lb ground beef
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
kosher salt
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/4 cup tomato paste
2/3 cup tomato juice
1 pinch sugar
1 lb elbow macaroni

Steps:

  • In large pot over medium heat melt butter. Add onion and bell pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic for about 1 minute. Stir in ground beef and cook, stirring and breaking up meat chunks with a spoon. Cook until meat is done, about 7 minutes until no longer pink. Toss herbs and pepper over the meat mixture, add salt to taste, and stir until well mixed.
  • Add canned tomatoes with their juices, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and tomato juice. Add sugar to taste. Simmer gently while you prepare the pasta.
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil over high heat. Add macaroni and cook until al dente, stirring occasionally. Drain the macaroni and add to the chop suey.
  • Serve hot.

1 green bell pepper, stemmed, seeded, and chopped

1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Kosher salt
1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (14.5-ounce) can tomato sauce
1/4 cup tomato paste
2/3 cup tomato juice
Pinch of sugar
1 pound elbow macaroni

Steps:

  • 1. Heat the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and bell pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, for about 1 minute. Then add the ground beef and continue to cook, stirring and breaking up the chunks of meat with a spoon. Cook until the meat is no longer pink, about 7 minutes. Sprinkle the herbs and pepper over the meat, add salt to taste, and mix in well.
  • 2. Add the canned tomatoes with their juices, the tomato sauce, paste, and juice. Add sugar to taste. Simmer while you cook the pasta.
  • 3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the macaroni and cook, stirring occasionally, until al dente. Drain. Mix the macaroni into the chop suey. Serve hot.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning
1 large onion, halved then sliced
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes with juice
4 cups of your favorite homemade spaghetti sauce or 4 cups store bought spaghetti sauce
1/2 cup margarine or 1/2 cup butter
salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Cook macaroni according to pkg directions.
  • Meanwhile, in a separate lg skillet, over med-high heat, saute the ground beef, onion, and Italian seasoning for 5-10 minutes, or until meat is brown, and crumbly.
  • Drain thoroughly, and leave the meat and onion in the skillet.
  • Add the diced tomatoes and spaghetti sauce, and mix well.
  • Add butter, and mix, until melted.
  • When noodles are done, drain thoroughly, and return noodles to the pot.
  • Add the hamburger mixture from the skillet to the pot.
  • Mix well, and season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  • Heat until bubbly, then serve with bread and butter.

VEGETABLE CHOP SUEY

Vegetable chop suey recipe made with crispy fried noodles, yummy sauce & lots of veggies. This chop suey is full of flavors and tastes super delicious.

Number Of Ingredients 15

150 g noodles ((whole wheat noodles))
2 tbsp cornflour ((to sprinkle over the noodles))
1 tbsp finely chopped garlic
¼ cup spring onion whites (thinly sliced)
1/2 cup cabbage
1/2 capsicum
1 small carrot
1/4 cup tomato sauce
1 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp black pepper powder
1/2 tsp sugar
salt to taste.
1.5 tsp cornflour ((stir 1.5 tsp cornflour in 2 tsp water to make cornflour slurry))
1 tsp vinegar ((or use lemon juice))
2 tbsp spring onion greens

Steps:

  • Boil 5 cups of water. Add salt & stir.
  • Next, add the noodles to the boiling water & cook as per package instructions or until al dente.
  • Drain the noodles to a colander.
  • Rinse it with cold water. Set it aside for a minute.
  • Sprinkle cornflour on the noodles & toss it. Make sure the noodles are coated with a thin layer of cornflour. Do not add too much cornflour.
  • Fry the noodles in medium hot oil.
  • With the help of the ladle try to give it a round shape. Let it fry on one side then gently flip & fry on the other side until golden & crisp (refer the video). Set it aside.
  • Same way fry the noodles in batches. I fried the noodles in 2 batches.
  • In the same pan, remove excess oil. (Keep only 2 tsp oil).
  • Sauté finely chopped garlic for a minute.
  • Add spring onion white. Stir fry it for a minute.
  • Next, add cabbage, capsicum & carrot to it. Stir fry it for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add 1 cup water, tomato sauce, soy sauce, black pepper powder, sugar & salt. Stir it well.
  • Let it come to a boil then add cornflour slurry (mix 2 tsp cornflour in 1.5 tsp water). Cook stirring continuously.
  • Once the sauce thickens, remove from the heat.
  • Stir in vinegar & spring onion greens.
  • Serve immediately with crisp fried noodles & enjoy!
