THE BEST HOMEMADE CORNBREAD RECIPE
Fill your kitchen with the aroma of homemade cornbread! My family has been making this easy cornbread recipe for decades. The crisp golden crust and moist, fluffy center really can't be beat.

Steps:
- Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or cast iron skillet well and set aside. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- In a medium mixing bowl, add the flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Whisk to combine well.
- Make a well in the center of your dry ingredients and add your oil or butter, milk, and egg. Stir just until the mixture comes together and there are only a few lumps remaining.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is a deep golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Serve hot.

SOUTHERN CORN LIGHT BREAD RECIPE
Steps:
- Heat the oven to 350 F.
- Grease a 9-by-5-by-3-inch loaf pan with shortening or bacon drippings.
- In a mixing bowl combine the cornmeal, flour, sugar, soda, and salt. Blend well with a whisk or spoon.
- Stir the buttermilk and melted shortening into the dry ingredients. Blend well.
- Spoon the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until lightly browned.
- Cool it in the pan on a rack for 5 minutes before removing the bread from the pan.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place shortening in an 8 1/2-by-4 1/2-by-2 3/4-inch nonstick loaf pan. Transfer to oven until melted.
- Sift together sugar, flour, cornmeal, and salt. Combine buttermilk and baking soda in a glass measuring cup, then stir into dry ingredients until combined. - Preheat oven to 475 degrees F.
- Thin the yogurt with water to make 1 3/4 cup.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients and mix well.
- In another bowl, combine the thinned yogurt and egg whites, beat till well blended, then add it to the dry ingredients and mix the bater till blended thoroughly.
- Place the oil in a 9" iron skillet and heat till the oil is hot.
- Pour the oil into the batter, stir well, and pour the batter back into the skillet.
