Kielbasa for the Big Game image

This is a great party appetizer that you can make in your slow cooker. I make it every year for the Big Game and it disappears. The ingredients sound like something a child would put together but truly it tastes great. This is an appetizer so it could feed less or more depending on the size of your football fans.

4 pounds kielbasa (Polish) sausage (such as Hillshire Farm®), cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1 (18 ounce) jar grape jelly
2 (18 ounce) bottles barbeque sauce

Steps:

  • Place the kielbasa into a slow cooker. Add the grape jelly and barbeque sauce.
  • Cook on Medium until hot, about 2 hours.

Need quick treats for a poker party? Serve these dough-wrapped kielbasa morsels along with our Poker Chips and All-in Dip, Chickpea Kickers, and beer.

1 package light kielbasa or turkey kielbasa
1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls
2 tbsp. spicy brown mustard

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375° F. Pat kielbasa dry with paper towels. Cut kielbasa crosswise into 3/4-inch-thick rounds; cut each round crosswise in half.
  • Unroll half of dough (4 triangles) from tube of crescent rolls but do not separate triangles; place on work surface.
  • Pinch 2 triangles together along perforations to make 6" by 3 1/2" rectangle. Repeat to make another rectangle; cut rectangles apart. Spread rectangles with half of mustard. Cut each rectangle crosswise in half, then cut each half crosswise into six 1/2-inch-wide strips to make 24 strips in all.
  • Loosely wrap mustard side of a dough strip around piece of kielbasa; pinch to seal. Place wrapped kielbasa on ungreased large cookie sheet. Repeat, placing pieces about 1 inch apart on cookie sheet.
  • Bake 13 to 15 minutes or until puffs are browned. Meanwhile, repeat with remaining half of crescent dough, mustard, and kielbasa.
  • When puffs are done, with spatula, transfer to warm platter. Serve warm.

I got the idea to make these when we had a Hickory Farm store at our local mall. They had cheddy brauts that they would cook right in front of the store, mmm were they good. Well the store isn't there anymore and I missed them. One Holiday I bought the Kielbasa and thought hmm slice these and buy the Kraft sweet and sour sauce...

1-2 lb or pkgs of kielbasa (i usually buy 2)
1 bottle of kraft sweet and sour sauce (pictured above)

Steps:

  • 1. Doesn't cost much to make these and so easy, the men will gobble em up in no time.
  • 2. I just use a cast iron pan, spray with oil, slice your kielbasa in coin shapes, place in pre-heated medium heated pan, use a brush to apply the sweet and sour sauce on top of each one. Turn and brush the other side and wait til they are nicely browned . Your done. Serve on a platter with toothpicks available or stuck in each one.
  • 3. The picture above was taken when I was just starting to cook them, you want them a little more browned than it shows in the picture.

I don't remember how this concoction came about but it has ALWAYS been a hit whenever I take it anywhere or serve it here or at home for a party. I have putting it together to a science even down to the type of plate product, (Hefty Serve N Store Everyday Large Plates because they "ZIP" up when one plate is inverted onto the other and they stack well) I use these because it makes for easy transportation and storage in the refrigerator also. It is so crazy easy to put together and it always gets everyone asking how you made it. I feign exhaustion *back of hand to forehead* and tell them.........

1 (10 ounce) package hillshire farms polska kielbasa
1 (18 ounce) jar smuckers apricot-pineapple preserves (added note on 2/11/06 ( If it is too sweet, you can use half of the jar each on two kielbasa platter)

Steps:

  • Slice Kielbasa with diagonal cuts about 1/2 inch wide.
  • Line plate with a tripled (or more) layers of paper towels as this platter will get very juicy.
  • In a circular formation, arrange sliced Kielbasa on paper towels. It should fill the plate.
  • Spoon 1/2 of the Preserves jar over the top, making sure all sausages are lightly covered.
  • Cover it, I just use the other plate loosely covering it or you can cover with plastic wrap.
  • Microwave in the oven on HIGH for 2 minutes depending on your Micro.
  • PLEASE, PLEASE take care when carrying it out and opening it up as it will be hot and HOT steam and juices may spill out. You may want to have it on another plate or slide it onto another plate to take it out.
  • Poke toothpicks into most of the sausages and serve hot.
